The AWS Transactional Services team in Seattle is building distributed systems and backend technologies that offer innovative solutions to this growth. The team is offering a set of services, APIs to other AWS teams. Our customers are a wide range of AWS foundational teams, from S3, Kinesis, SNS and DynamoDB, each of them looking for technology solutions that help them to achieve their goals. As a Software Development Manager, you will be joining the team that builds Journal Data Plane services and automations at scale. You will be leading a team of software developers solving novel technical challenges, working with tenured Principal Engineers and Senior Software Engineers on a daily basis. Your responsibilities include : owning the delivery of software development projects end-to-end, defining your team's roadmap and managing the ongoing projects, keeping customers informed, updating senior management, and representing the team to their dependencies. You will also work with the engineers in your team to invent, design, and develop highly available and scalable distributed systems and database technologies. You will work with your team, your peers, senior management, and senior engineers to implement best practices in software development and operational processes. You will develop and grow the members of your team, as well as mentoring others. You will keep up to date with new technologies used in the field and by our customers, to stay current in our rapidly changing environment.

Basic Qualifications : 3+ years of engineering team management experience, 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience, 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience, 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience, knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software / hardware / networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations. Experience partnering with product or program management teams. Preferred Qualifications : Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy. Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring / coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers.

The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400 / year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700 / year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
