Organist/Accompanist Job Description:
Role Description The Organist/Accompanist provides skilled and dependable musical accompaniment for worship services and rehearsals, supporting congregational singing, choirs, and other musical ensembles. This role works collaboratively with the Director of Music Ministry and Pastor to enhance worship through thoughtful, prepared, and flexible keyboard accompaniment, primarily on organ and/or piano.
Expectations - Provide organ and piano accompaniment for regularly scheduled worship services.
- Accompany the choir during rehearsals and worship services as scheduled.
- Collaborate with the Director of Music to prepare appropriate music aligned with the liturgical calendar, scripture themes, and worship plans.
- Support congregational singing with confident, well-prepared accompaniment.
- Accompany soloists, instrumentalists, or small ensembles as needed for worship.
- Prepare music in advance, including practicing service music, hymns, and anthems.
- Maintain a professional, cooperative, and flexible working relationship with church staff and volunteers.
- Ensure respectful care and proper use of church instruments.
- Attend planning meetings or additional rehearsals as requested, within the scope of hours.
- Other duties as assigned.
Hours / Qualifications
Hours - Part-time position, approximately 10 hours per week, including worship services, rehearsals, and preparation time.
- Schedule may fluctuate seasonally (, Advent, Lent, Holy Week, special services).
Qualifications - Proficiency in organ and piano accompaniment, with experience in church or liturgical settings preferred.
- Ability to sight read music and adapt to varying musical styles and service needs.
- Experience accompanying choirs and congregational singing.
- Strong collaborative and communication skills.
- Dependability, punctuality, and professional preparation.
- Familiarity with or openness to learning the traditions and worship practices of the congregation.
