Client Care Aide II

This position is open to current Colorado residents only.

This recruitment may be used to fill multiple vacancies, including both part-time and full-time positions.

This position will receive a short-staffing temporary pay differential of 4% from July 1st 2025 - June 30th 2026.

Colorado Veterans Community Living Center at Fitzsimons

Colorado Veterans Community Living Center (VCLC) at Fitzsimons is a beautiful 180-bed, skilled nursing facility serving Colorado's veterans. We strive to honor and respect those living in our community through companionship and person-centered care while providing a comfortable and safe place to live. At Fitzsimons, we provide long-term care and short-term rehab and have a secured memory care neighborhood. We are conveniently located on the medical campus with UC Hospital and the Aurora VA Medical Center. Fitzsimons celebrates a low 14% staff turnover rate and substantial longevity among staff.

The Client Care Aide IIs provide basic hands-on patient / resident care in a safe, clean, infection controlled environment by bathing, dressing, grooming, hygiene, skin care, range of motion, positioning, ambulating, transferring, toileting programs, feeding programs, transporting, performing basic assessments (vital signs, blood pressures, weights, etc.), and charting / documenting all of the above. This is a fully-operational position responsible for performing the full range of client aide tasks and problem solving. These positions detect information or problems by interviewing or investigating. This position must have a Colorado CNA certification and certification must remain in good standing.

Job duties include, but are not limited to :

  • Provide direct resident care including bathing, dressing, undressing, assisting in and out of bed, performing personal hygiene, feeding programs, toileting programs, range of motion, transporting, and interacting socially to meet residents' basic needs.
  • Explaining patient care before, during, and after contacts
  • Answering call lights and assessing basic resident care needs
  • Updating noted resident changes, reporting information to the charge nurse, and recommending routines and schedules to IDT Team
  • Performing basic resident observations, such as vital signs, blood pressure, weight, intake and output, and basic skin assessments
  • Providing infection control by implementing / using universal precautions and proper disposal of waste
  • Cleaning linen room and equipment, stocking supplies, and completing supply forms
  • Correctly using safety / positioning devices, side rails, transfer belts, and other equipment
  • Attending ongoing staff education programs.

Special Qualifications :

Must hold and maintain an active CNA certification in good standing from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, as well as a current BLS Healthcare Provider Card.

Minimum Qualifications :

Education / Licensure / Certification / Experience :

  • High school diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED)
  • One year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position
  • Substitutions :

  • Current, valid certification as a Nurse Aide (CNA) from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies will substitute for the high school diploma or GED
  • Current, valid licensure as a Practical Nurse (LPN) from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies or any state participating in.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience in a long-term care environment
  • Experience working with veterans or patients who suffer from PTSD
  • Experience working with patients with dementia
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Conditions of Employment :

  • Full Background CDHS employees (all Direct contact with vulnerable persons) : CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services), Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers)
  • Must be willing to obtain vaccinations, as required by the State and facility
  • Must be willing to test for Tuberculosis (TB)
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver's license
  • May be required to travel / transport residents in state vehicles
  • Required to have a current, valid BLS Healthcare Provider Card
  • Shift Work While every effort will be made for the schedule to reflect the shift / days agreed upon by my supervisor and me, I understand I may be scheduled on different days / shifts based on facility need. While leadership will ask for overtime volunteers as a first-line strategy to relieve staffing shortages, I understand that I may be required to work overtime as a part of this position. Shift work includes weekends, nights, holidays.
  • May require on-call status, if needed, per the pay plan for this position
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must (1) disclose that information on the application (2) provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position, (3) provide the employee number from the applicant's prior State employment. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
