Skills for Chicago

Is a Chicago-based nonprofit that removes barriers to employment by eliminating biases that disqualify candidates unnecessarily. Working with local and global companies, Skills brings opportunities to neighborhoods and municipalities throughout the Chicagoland area. To be eligible for Skills for Chicago services, candidates must reside in Illinois or Indiana, be authorized to work in the United States, and be either unemployed or underemployed.

Job Highlights

  • Attend a free EMT training program in Chicago with hands-on instruction from experienced educators
  • Complete training with milestone bonuses and supportive services provided throughout the program
  • Learn critical patient care and transportation skills to prepare for the EMT national exam
  • Achieve a 90%+ pass rate on the national exam and qualify for immediate job opportunities
  • Participate in a program designed to launch a career in emergency medical services

Candidate Profile

  • Must attend a mandatory info session; attendees will complete a questionnaire that gauges basic math and reading skills
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • North Lawndale residency strongly preferred (not required)
