NATURE OF WORK

An individual in this class supports and maintains both administrative and instructional computers, software, and networks. This work includes repair of all technology-related equipment. Employee provides assistance to classrooms, media centers, computer labs, and administrative offices. Employee identifies problems and takes appropriate corrective action. Employee installs and upgrades all technology-related equipment in network and stand-alone environments. Typically, this employee will provide first response support at the district level for the maintenance and operation of computers, software, and networks at the building level. This employee will provide technical support via telephone to a variety of users across multiple departments. This employee works collaboratively with district-level Systems Administrators and under the supervision of the Chief Technology Officer to deliver timely technology solutions and support to staff and students. Employee serves as a resource to assist building-level personnel with complex issues. This includes being knowledgeable of multiple district-level systems and their interface/interaction with building-level systems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Strong knowledge of computers and related technologies.
• Strong knowledge of components of local area networks.
• Understanding of mechanical, electronic, and computer principles as applied to the repair and maintenance of computers and peripherals.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of technology users.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of two years' experience as an Onslow County Schools IT Technician Assistant, or equivalent.
• Recommendation of current direct supervisor.
• Exemplary evaluation measures for at least two, successive years

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months

SALARY: Salary Grade 68

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to reach with hands and arms routinely.
• Ability to bend, stoop, carry, crawl, push, or pull.
• Ability to carry and transport equipment, supplies, and materials
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds routinely and 50 pounds occasionally.
• Must be able to visually and auditorily effectively communicate with staff and students.
• Must be able to drive to variety of school sites.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Under the supervision of the Chief Technology Officer, assists with the installation of hardware, software, and related peripherals.
2. Ensures the maintenance of all computers, software, and local area networks by monitoring performance.
3. Installs upgrades to hardware and software.
4. Makes recommendations to building-level staff regarding upgrades and replacement of technology-related equipment.
5. Reads and interprets schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals.
6. Operates standard and specialized electronics devices in testing and troubleshooting computers and other technology-related equipment.
7. Attends classes and seminars to enhance knowledge of equipment and operating systems.
8. Works closely with district-level systems administrators to monitor and maintain daily operations of district-level systems.
9. Serves as a resource for school-based personnel for escalation of complex hardware/software technical issues.
