The Security Guard / Public Safety Ambassadors protect and guard University property (both clinical and nonclinical); maintain order among the public and the UCSF community; monitor and control entry to restricted areas; inspect areas to prevent fires, accidents, and other hazards; direct visitors and answer questions concerning building and/or exhibit layouts. The job will involve the ability to push and pull up to 25 pounds; stand and walk for extended periods; carry and lift 21-30 pounds and run short distances.

Effective 10/17/23: We are offering a new hire sign-on bonus of $500 to all external hires that have not been employed by a UC in the last 12 months!

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The hourly rate for this position is $24.99.

The UCSF Police Department provides contemporary police services including criminal investigation, community policing, crime prevention and suppression, emergency management, and site security services to a daily population of over 60,000 people at University and contract locations. Founded in 1864, UCSF includes the 107-acre Parnassus campus that is home to graduate professionals in dentistry, medicine, nursing and pharmacy; a graduate division for pre- and postdoctoral scientists; UCSF Medical Center; UCSF Children's Hospital; and Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute. Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• General PC knowledge and demonstrated proficiency using MS Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
• Excellent customer service and effective problem-solving skills; ability to fluently speak, read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English
• Demonstrated ability to work calmly under stress in emergencies; sound judgment skills
• Demonstrated record of excellent attendance and reliability

Preferred Qualifications

• One or more years of experience in the security field
• Military experience

License/Certification

• License: Valid and unrestricted California Driver's License- Class C (required)
• Certification: BSIS (Guard Card) Certification (completed within one year from date of hire)
