Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities :

• Drive trucks, following established routes, through residential streets, alleys, business and / or industrial areas.
• Pick-up and move bulk garbage, various residential and commercial debris transporting to trash facility.
• Sort collected items for recycling and place them into designated truck compartments.
• Operate automated or semi-automated hoisting devices that raise refuse bins and dump contents into openings in truck bodies.
• Communicate to supervisors and / or dispatchers concerning delays, unsafe sites, accidents, equipment breakdowns, or other issues that impact route.
• Inspect trucks prior to beginning routes to ensure safe operating condition.
• Fill out reports for defective equipment.
• Operate equipment that compresses collected refuse.
• Dump refuse or recyclable material at disposal sites.
• Dismount / remount assigned vehicle at assigned collections points.
• Refuel trucks or add other fluids, such as oil or brake fluid.
• Gauge road and weather conditions to determine how assigned routes will be affected.
• Clean assigned vehicles or compactor bodies after rounds have been completed.
• Special pick-ups of varied recyclable materials, such as food scraps, used oil, discarded computers, or other electronic items.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.
