About The Unit

3D is a 22 bed Med/Surg unit at Blodgett Hospital that specializes in the care of patients admitted with complex medical diagnoses as well as a primary stroke center. Staff are often drawn to 3D for the variety of patients and skills utilized. Our team members become competent in caring for a large array of both medical patients and the occasional surgical patients. Specifically, our team is known as being experts in stroke care, sickle cell care, managing tube feedings, and the care of wounds. Some of the patient types we routinely see are respiratory illnesses, acute kidney injuries, diabetic care, septic shock, GI bleed and other acute GI illnesses, sickle cell crisis, pancreatitis, and psychiatric care. The teamwork is strong on our team as we work collectively to provide care. Additional unique skills that nurse hired to 3D will learn include utilization of the NIHSS Stroke Scale.

Scope Of Work

Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that the required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Work Equivalent
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
