SUMMARY :

The Co mmunity Engagement Fellow is a two-year limited term position that serves to enhance the capacity of the Parks & Community Engagement team as the League expands its partnerships with ethnically and socioeconomically diverse communities in the coast redwood and giant sequoia ranges. Based in San Francisco California and working directly with League staff and partner organizations the Fellows core duties will include supporting Community Engagement programs. Specifically the Fellow will assist with community partnership development and the implementation and administration of programs that raise awareness of redwood forests and improve engagement of and access for communities to increase and diversify redwood park visitation. Program areas include access education and interpretation and take place in public parks as well as at League-owned properties. This two-year fellowship structure is intended to support professional development within the specified timeframe.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

Support and implement Community Engagement programs :

  • Closely collaborate with members of the Parks & Community Engagement team as well as colleagues across the Leagues Conservation Programs and in Marketing & Communications to advance the portfolio of Community Engagement programs such as Redwood Rides Redwood Connect Grants regional Education programs Redwood Interpreters Network Ill Go if You Go podcastcommunity and park events.
  • Provide administrative logistical and implementation support and leadership for the Community Engagement programs.
  • Participate in strategic program development to elevate the Leagues Community Engagement principles and outcomes.

Contribute to community partnership development as well as program communications :

  • Collaborate with a wide array of external partners from community-based organizations outdoor recreation and environmental organizations to Tribes land management agencies and schools to support community-centered programming and League-wide collaborative opportunities.
  • Identify and engage new community leaders and organizations with strong partnership potential.
  • Create communications and promotional materials including presentations social media posts and an array of printed and digital materials.
  • Assist with analysis and reporting for Community Engagement Programs

  • Debrief outcomes and track and analyze individual program metrics to support continuous improvement of the Community Engagement programand vet opportunities.
  • Contribute to qualitative and quantitative program area assessments and year-to-year analyses to inform strategy effectiveness and future investments in program development.
  • Proactively communicate verbally and in writing with colleagues and partners to share opportunities respond to inquiries and facilitate partnership agreement requirements.
  • Research trends on program-related current events state and national campaigns and social media promotion associated with our mission.
  • Assist with maintaining partner information in a Programs database.
  • Other tasks as needed and as time allows :

  • Taking photographs and / or notes during site visits
  • Conduct research and / or literature reviews for Community Engagement best practices learning and sharing opportunities.
  • Support other Conservation Programs at the League.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree or two years of full-time professional work experience or internship experience in Outdoor Recreation Education Community Development Science Health or related field.
  • Knowledge of Californias diverse communities and their needs and interests related to the outdoors is desirable.
  • Self-starter able to work independently as well as in a team with a track record of collaborating successfully with others.
  • Highly organized with excellent project management skills including the ability to establish and monitor priorities maintain flexibility and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to conservation and equitable outdoor access.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office computer programs and various social media design and communication platforms (Facebook Instagram TikTok Canva and Asana project management software).

  • Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to communicate and interact effectively with people across cultures ethnic groups and identities; verbal and written fluency in a language other than English is desirable.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Some overnight travel predominantly within coast redwood and giant sequoia ranges of California.
  • Some weekend and evening responsibilities.
  • Valid drivers license and safe driving record.
  • Regularly sits at a desk or workstation.
  • Actively utilizes computers and other office equipment.
  • Frequently moves about and between offices to collaborate with colleagues.
  • Frequently required to hike through forest land while working off-site including walking on uneven ground climbing over obstacles and accessing remote locations.
  • Occasionally lifts carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • WORK SCHEDULE

    This role is hybrid with a minimum of 2 days in the office. Our weekly all staff in office day is Tuesday (when everyone living in the SF Bay Area is required to come in). Additional days are based on departmental norms and business needs.

    COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

    As a full-time hourly employee you will be eligible for full benefits which include medical dental and vision insurance a retirement plan with an up to 8% match three weeks of vacation annually plus paid holidays. We offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience and internal / external equity considerations; the salary for this role is set at $35 / hour.
