Job Summary
The Executive Director, Health, Safety & Public Works Training role will oversee the strategic direction, program development, and financial sustainability of university-based training, outreach, and service initiatives. Provides guidance and support to Directors and Managers in workforce development, outreach programming, business development, and grant / contract management. Key programs include but not limited to Safety and Health, the Environmental Training Institute, Public Works Institute, and customized corporate and industry training and consulting services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership for EEC by managing the day-to-day operations of all business units with direct and specific responsibility for the workforce development and community outreach programs, contracting and other consultation services.
- Hire, evaluate, discipline and discharge staff as necessary to support Division success.
- Provide management oversight to the Directors and Managers of the various product lines and business units within the division, by assisting in the development of business plans and objectives, development of products and associated training.
- Develop and manage comprehensive strategic operational plans to deliver innovative training and outreach programs.
- Manage research, marketing, development, and delivery of instructor-led and web- based curriculum with a focus on instructional excellence.
- Establish and manage marketing opportunities to enhance the strategic positioning of new and developing programs in local, state, and national markets.
- Seek funding and develop strategic partnerships with government, business and community organizations, and lead negotiations for the renewals and newly solicited contracts.
- Determine margins, establish, and analyze budgets to ensure fiscal viability of each program.
- Establish and manage staffing plans to meet the educational initiatives and hiring strategies to ensure market success.
Work with the AVP to :
Develop and monitor annual programming and budget needs, to include federal, state and local program opportunities.
Develop Division policies and evaluate implementation.
Monitor business unit performance metrics and develop necessary modifications to ensure financial responsibilities and sustainability are achieved.
Negotiate and manage training and service contracts, bid solicitations and curriculum development contracts.
Assist AVP in establishing and enhancing business relationships with major customers and University academic departments and establish new diversified lines of business.Extensive travel required.Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.Ten (10) years of experience in continuing education and / or business services.Ten (10) years of supervisory and management experience or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in similar role.Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree with an area of industry specialization like Safety, Environmental, Transportation, etc.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Other Requirements Workplace and Eligibility Conditions
