OVERVIEW
Responsible for ensuring the Academy program is a warm, nurturing, loving, and safe learning environment for each child. Supervise Assistant Teacher, and assume responsibility for classroom management. The Academy Teacher will provide ongoing personal contact, meaningful learning activities, supervision, and immediate care to protect children’s well-being. Each child’s self-concept shall be enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality respected through daily interactions and positive learning experiences.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Employs time management techniques for efficiency including being on time, assisting with classroom setup for the day, and acting as a positive role model
• Fosters encouragement, kindness, and respect while managing a classroom of early childhood children (in ratio)
• Educates and challenges student comprehension and retention, so learners reach their highest potential
• Administering careful due diligence in educational assessment, curriculum planning, and lesson plan instruction
• Recording class observations and outcomes and keeping student files current
• Guides collective classroom responsibility, school practices, procedures, and policies and establishes and implements positive, appropriate, and consistent boundaries with children
• Assesses educational strategies and the quality of resources while maintaining the classroom budget
• Returns materials in a timely respectful, organized manner
• Approachable, and maintains positive, respectful relationships with parents and partners with them in their child’s education and development
• Conducting 3 annual conferences throughout the school year (including a listening conference before the start of school)
• Physical Requirements: Lift up to 40 pounds, repetitive bending, stretching, and stooping, climb up and down stairs, have mobility required to ensure the safety of children, work with children on the floor, work outdoors, perform light cleaning
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education preferred
• Early Childhood Associates Degree or CDA or meets MN Rule 3 Teacher qualifications
• Two years’ previous experience in an early childhood or elementary education classroom setting preferred
• Proficient in providing quality care to a variety of aged children
• Ability to provide leadership and supervision of an Assistant Teacher or Aide
• Current Develop Registry account or In-service training documentation
• Support and affirm the Statement of Faith, Covenant, Mission, and Vision of Wooddale
RELATIONSHIPS
• Reports directly to the Wooddale Academy Assistant Director and Site Director
• Coordinates and cooperates with other church staff and departments as needed
