POSITION SUMMARY : This position exists to provide leadership and coordination of all interscholastic athletic programs offered at the high school of assignment. The Athletic Director provides support to all stakeholders in the development of worthwhile learning experiences through athletics that lead to the formulation of positive values, team-work skills, a sense of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence. The individual will promote good relations throughout the athletic program to support the philosophy of the school, its stakeholders, and the District. The Athletic Director will maintain an active program that continually promotes sportsmanship. The Athletic Director must be available to work flexible days and hours.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
Indoors / Outdoors The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
Heat The worker is subject to extreme heat. Temperatures are above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
Noise The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS :
- Education – Bachelor’s Degree or higher, from an accredited college or university with major course work in Education, Athletic Administration, or related field.
- Experience – Five (5) years of verifiable experience in interscholastic / intercollegiate coaching and teaching; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that is deemed equal or superior to the foregoing requirements.
- Computer Skills – Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology, as required for the position.
- Certificates and / or Licenses – Certification through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association program of Certified Athletic Administrator (C.A.A.) or Certified Master Athletic Administrator (C.M.A.A.) is preferred.
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : M-Medium Work – Required to push, pull or lift 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and / or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Assist the school principal in identifying and hiring all athletic department personnel, including but not limited to coaches and Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC). Assist the school principal, if requested, in the supervision and oversight of all athletic department personnel, including but not limited to coaches and ATC.Provide oversight and control of student-athlete care as provided through ATC at the school level.Assist head coaches to develop consistent disciplinary action and problem solving strategies for all athletic programs.Administer all school district, Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA), and National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) interscholastic rules, bylaws, policies and procedures as they relate to athletics at the school level.Maintain and approve athletic schedules, contracts, and sanctioning for all interscholastic athletic events in which the school participates according to the published rules and policies of each respective sport.Prepare and submit all documents required for compliance through the Equity Assurance office, i.e. Title IX Rosters, Corrective Action, etc.In accordance with state and federal guidelines, maintain a permanent file of medical examinations, injury reports, parent consent and release, birth certificate, and other items as required by governing bodies.Maintains permanent records for each sport, including but not limited to wins / losses, letter winners, and outstanding performances.Determine eligibility of candidates for all athletic teams as it pertains to rules and guidelines established through the school district, FHSAA, NFHS, or other pertinent governing body.Supervise the coaching endorsement / certification program at the school level.Promote and publicize the interscholastic athletic program according to district and state rules and guidelines.Seek ways to help support and finance needs of the athletic program.Coordinate and schedule for the use, repair, and maintenance of all athletic facilities.Coordinate and arrange for proper supervision, security, parking, and other services required for any interscholastic events that are hosted by their school.Act as tournament manager for any FHSAA State Series contest for their participating school.Manage and oversee the school’s General Athletic account.Work with school bookkeeper to oversee proper procedures of any internal athletic, team, and booster club accounts.Manage and oversee accurate equipment inventories for all interscholastic athletic teams.Assists head coach and school staff to schedule and secure proper transportation and lodging as needed for all interscholastic teams.Attend meetings as requested or required pertaining to interscholastic athletics, i.e., school district, FHSAA, Florida Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (FIAAA), or Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA).Act as the principal’s designee for outside athletic support organizations, such as the Booster Club, to ensure district policy is followed.Conduct athletic department meetings to maintain proper levels of communication and implementation of departmental desires.Assist both coaches and guidance counseling staff with educating studentathletes on the current rules and regulations of athletic recruiting, eligibility, and financial aid pertaining to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).Educate and meet with all stakeholders as needed pertaining to the planning, function, or operations of all athletic teams and activities.Promote and assist interscholastic coaches in pursuing professional development opportunities.Submit yearly budget information pertaining to interscholastic athletics to school principal.Responsible for the yearly review of all athletic manuals produced by District or state.Other duties as assigned by the school principal or District Extra Curricular Activities & Athletic Director.SKILLS & ABILITIES :
