The primary purpose of this position is to independently perform a wide range of material handling and heavy capacity fork lift operating duties for Air Mobility (AMC) strategic Aerial Port Squadrons, supporting the United States Transportation Command's global cargo movement requirements. Responsibilities include independently performing a wide range of warehousing duties, to include receiving, storing, issuing, shipping, pickup, and delivery of general, oversized, or specialized bulk materials and equipment. Operates electric, gasoline, LPG, or diesel powered fork lift trucks capable of lifting loads weighing up to 50K pounds higher than 168 inches and automated material handling / identification equipment to include mobile stock selectors and electromechanical automated equipment, such as high rise automated storage and retrieval vehicles to move, stack and unstack, load and unload, bin, and position materials, supplies and equipment. Secures hazardous, and non-hazardous cargo prior to shipment. Drives one or more types of trucks such as pickup, panel, and flatbed trucks, which typically have a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or less, on public roads at highway speeds. Utilizes safety practices and procedures, complies with established safety rules and regulations, and maintains a safe, clean, and secure work environment.
Qualifications : Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C for the WG-6900 Warehousing and Stock Handling Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a MATERIALS HANDLER (FORK LIFT / MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR) without more than normal supervision. Job elements include :
Physical Effort : Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry weights up to 40 pounds. May handle heavier items with weight lifting equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work requires moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering, and tilting fork lift trucks. Subject to possible strain caused by vibration while operating large capacity fork lift trucks outside and over rough terrain. Occasionally may be required to make limited emergency repairs on vehicles, such as changing a flat tire.
Working Conditions : Work is done inside and outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Employee is regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, and broken bones may result from shifting loads, toppling stacks, fork lift truck's overturning, falling objects, or accidents with other moving equipment. May be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and high noise areas while working in a mechanized work area, or radiation, toxins, explosives hazards, or chemical fumes while working in a hazardous materials area. May be required to wear protective clothing, such as hard hats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons. Drives motor vehicles in all types of traffic and weather conditions on public roads and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents.
Part-Time or Unpaid Experience : Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
