Job Title : Special Education Paraprofessional

Reports to : Director of Student Services / Building Administrator
Work Schedule : Academic Year Part-Time
General Description :
The Special Education Paraprofessional supports the academic and behavioral success of students with disabilities under the supervision of a licensed Special Education Teacher. The Paraprofessional assists with instructional tasks, classroom management, and the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), while gaining hands-on experience in a school-based setting.
Qualifications :
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow directions and adapt to various instructional strategies
- Must pass a background check and meet all school district compliance requirements
Primary Responsibilities :
Assist students individually or in small groups under teacher directionSupport the implementation of IEP accommodations and modificationsHelp maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive learning environmentMonitor student behavior and provide redirection or support as neededAssist with classroom routines, transitions, and data collectionParticipate in team meetings and professional development when applicableMaintain confidentiality of student information at all timesPerform other duties as assigned by the teacher or school leadershipSchool Activities :
Participate in classroom activities, field trips, or school events as appropriateMay assist in student support or enrichment programs based on interest and availabilityAttend staff meetings and Professional Development as directed by the building principalEssential Skills and Abilities :
Must demonstrate foundational professionalism, including consistent attendance, punctuality, adherence to school policies and procedures, and strong employability skills. These are considered essential, non-negotiable expectations of the role.
Must have one of the following to be an HQ Paraprofessional as required by the IDOE
Two Years of college experienceA two-year college degreePassed the Para-Pro Assessment (within the first year of Employment)One year or 1,000 hours of previous employment experience in a school- level evaluationsCompleted 48 credit hours of college-level classesRequirements :
