Step into Steelmaking
You clock in, gear up with PPE, and walk the melt area with a sharp eye. You note anything that looks off, complete the pre-shift equipment checks, and sync with teammates on the plan for the day. When maintenance needs an extra set of hands, you’re there. When operations support calls out a priority, you execute safely and on time. That’s a day in the life of a Steel Melt Operations Apprentice at CMC—learning fast, staying alert, and growing into a long-term career.
How You’ll Contribute
- Jump in alongside maintenance technicians when requested.
- Champion safety every minute : follow procedures and consistently wear company PPE.
- Spot hazards early and report them immediately.
- Communicate clearly about production concerns, issues, and resource needs.
- Complete and submit equipment inspection reports each shift.
- Carry out assignments from operations support safely and on schedule.
- Handle routine / minor maintenance or repairs independently when appropriate.
- Offer ideas that improve methods and procedures—continuous improvement matters.
- Own housekeeping for your area and contribute to overall facility cleanliness.
- Troubleshoot problems using your knowledge, experience, and teamwork.
- Know start-up, shut-down, and emergency procedures.
What It Takes
Team-first mindset in a fast-paced environment, with strong work ethic, attention to detail, and solid organization.Comfort working around heat / cold extremes, chemicals, dust, fumes and mists, uneven walking surfaces, loud noise, elevated areas, and confined spaces.Basic computer skills.Reliable attendance, timely work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs.A quick learner who can manage multiple tasks.Able to lift up to 50 lbs.Willingness to work some overtime.Ability to work a rotating shift that may include weekends and holidays.Education
High School Diploma or GED required.
