Title : Founding Corporate Controller

Location : El Segundo CA (Onsite 5 days / week)

Compensation : $175000$250000 base salary equity

About the Company

A venture-backed aerospace manufacturing startup is rebuilding the middle layer of the aerospace supply chain by designing new hardware that flies on todays aircraft. The company is tackling one of the most complex and under-innovated parts of aviation and has raised $76.5M from leading investors including Andreessen Horowitz Founders Fund Lux Capital and Caffeinated Capital .

The team is 16 people growing quickly and highly acquisitive - rolling up specialized manufacturers and component suppliers.

The Opportunity

This is the companys first Controller role. You will :

  • Own the accounting and reporting function for the parent company and its acquired subsidiaries.
  • Lead the company to audit readiness over the next 12-24 months .
  • Take over and professionalize the consolidation of acquired entities (currently in Excel) and implement the right consolidation system.
  • Diagnose and fix inventory accounting and other accounting issues at acquired subsidiaries.

If youre a Public Accounting trained CPA with deep manufacturing / inventory experience who wants true ownership in a fast-growing acquisitive aerospace platform this role puts you at the cenre of the action.

Youll report to the Head of Finance and work closely with the CEO and COO .

What Youll Do

Audit Readiness and amp; Compliance

  • Lead the effort to get the company audit-ready at both the parent and subsidiary level.
  • Design and implement the accounting policies documentation standards and support needed for a successful first external audit.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors once engaged.

    • Consolidation and amp; Reporting

  • Take over ownership of consolidating subsidiary financials into the parent (currently done in Excel by the Head of Finance).
  • Select implement and own an appropriate consolidation system to replace Excel as the company scales.
  • Deliver accurate and timely consolidated financial statements and reporting packages to leadership and investors.

    • Subsidiary Accounting and amp; Clean-Up

  • Assess newly acquired subsidiaries accounting practices with a particular focus on inventory accounting and related cost accounting.
  • Identify deficiencies design remediation plans and oversee implementation to bring each acquired company up to standard.
  • Partner with subsidiary teams and external accountants to ensure consistent policies and processes across the platform.

    • Processes Controls and amp; Policies

  • Own the accounting and reporting domain for the parent and all acquired companies.
  • Implement proper accounting processes and procedures including month-end close routines reconciliations and documentation.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting policies appropriate for a rapidly growing acquisitive manufacturing business.
  • Oversee and direct offshore bookkeeping resources handling day-to-day transactional accounting.

  • Core remit remains Accounting and amp; Reporting ; FP and amp;A exposure is available but not required.

    What You Bring

    Must-Haves

  • CPA credential.
  • Big 4 or top-tier audit firm experience (audit background is treated as a must-have for screening with rare exceptions for truly exceptional corporate pedigrees).
  • Manufacturing accounting experience with deep hands-on knowledge of inventory accounting (e.g. costing WIP variances).
  • Demonstrated consolidation experience either :
  • Auditing consolidated financial statements for acquisitive businesses and / or
  • Working in-house on consolidation and integration of multiple subsidiaries.
  • Experience working with at least one accounting ERP ; able to quickly learn and navigate new systems.
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working in an environment where consolidation is currently Excel-based while systems are being upgraded.
  • 4 years of progressive accounting experience (including audit) with a track record of high performance.
  • Must be a U.S. Person under ITAR requirements.
  • Willing and able to work 5 days per week onsite in El Segundo CA .

    • Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing or closely related industrial sectors.
  • Prior experience as a Controller Assistant Controller or Senior Manager stepping into their first Controller seat.
  • Experience leading or materially contributing to :
  • First-time external audits
  • Implementation of a consolidation tool or ERP module
  • Accounting process and control build-outs in a high-growth or acquisitive environment.

    • Compensation and amp; Relocation

  • Base Salary : $175000$250000
  • Equity : Competitive equity grant as part of the total compensation package.

  • For strong candidates full relocation costs can be covered.
  • Otherwise a relocation stipend of approximately $5000 is available.
