THE POSITION
Our roster has an opening with your name on it

At FanDuel, our data platform underpins critical business operations that need to run with maximum efficiency and scalability. As our business continues to grow, ensuring our cloud services are cost-effective, transparent, and well-managed is more important than ever.

This FinOps Engineer role sits within our Data organization and will focus on building out financial operations practices that provide visibility, governance, and optimization of our cloud spend. The position is part of a growing function that combines engineering rigor with financial accountability, ensuring we can scale responsibly while maximizing the value of every dollar spent in the cloud.

You’ll have the opportunity to work across cloud cost management, reporting, and optimization. The role is ideal for an engineer with a solid technical foundation in AWS and data platforms, who enjoys solving for efficiency, creating cost transparency, and helping shape the future of how FanDuel manages and optimizes its cloud infrastructure.

This is a mid-level engineering position, where you’ll be hands-on in implementation, but also contribute to standards, best practices, and long-term strategy for the data platform.

In addition to the specific responsibilities outlined above, employees may be required to perform other such duties as assigned by the Company. This ensures operational flexibility and allows the Company to meet evolving business needs.

THE GAME PLAN
Everyone on our team has a part to play

  • Experience implementing cloud cost optimization strategies across AWS and data platforms (Databricks, Redshift, etc.).

  • Strong skills in cost monitoring, tagging, and reporting, with ability to identify anomalies and optimization opportunities.

  • Ability to build dashboards, reports, and automated alerts that provide visibility into cloud spend and efficiency.

  • Experience creating and managing cost allocation models, budgets, and forecasting processes for cloud resources.

  • Familiarity with chargeback/showback models and financial governance frameworks.

  • Proven track record of partnering with engineering teams to embed cost-aware practices into architecture and pipelines.

  • Experience collaborating with finance teams and vendors to align on budgets, forecasts, and cost reduction strategies.

  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate cost insights into actionable recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Supporting adoption of best practices in FinOps across the data organization.

THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in cloud cost management, FinOps, or cloud infrastructure roles

  • Understanding of data platform technologies and their cost implications

  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring and resource utilization analysis

  • Knowledge of cloud governance and policy management

  • Strong understanding of AWS pricing models and cost optimization strategies

  • Experience with cloud cost management tools (AWS Cost Explorer, Cost and Usage Reports, third-party tools)

  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).

  • Proven ability to work with finance, engineering, and business teams to align on cost objectives

  • Excellent presentation skills with ability to translate technical cost data into business insights

  • Track record of delivering measurable cost savings and efficiency improvements

  • Capability to drive organizational change and adoption of cost-conscious practices

  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (SQL, Python, Databricks, Tableau, PowerBI)
