The Technical Writer/Documentation Specialist is responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing high-quality technical and program documentation in support of government systems and operations. This role works closely with technical, engineering, and program teams to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accurate, and user-focused documentation. The Technical Writer ensures all documentation is configuration-controlled, compliant with DoD standards, and aligned with program requirements, supporting system operations, sustainment, and user training.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
Job Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, update, and maintain technical documentation, including user guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), system documentation, release notes, and training materials.
- Collaborate with engineers, system administrators, and program staff to gather technical inputs and ensure accuracy and complete documentation.
- Ensure all documentation is configuration-controlled, versioned, and maintained in accordance with program governance and quality standards.
- Edit, format, and review documents for clarity, consistency, and compliance with DoD documentation standards and style guidelines.
- Maintain documentation repositories and collaboration tools (e.g., Confluence or similar platforms).
- Support audits, reviews, and program deliverables by ensuring documentation is current, approved, and traceable to requirements.
- Assist with documentation updates associated with system releases, enhancements, and process changes.
Minimum Education and Qualifications –Journeyman Level:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
- Required Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience developing and editing technical documentation, SOPs, and training materials for IT or system-based environments. Demonstrated proficiency with Confluence or similar documentation and collaboration platforms. Strong technical writing, editing, and document formatting skills. Experience working in configuration-managed documentation repositories. Familiarity with DoD documentation standards and federal technical writing practices.
- Preferred Experience Certifications such as CompTIA Technical Writer, ITIL Foundation, Microsoft Office Specialist, or similar credentials. Experience supporting DoD or other federal government programs in a cleared environment.
