What You Will Be Doing

Do you like talking with people in the community? Do you like traveling locally and statewide? This position may be for you.

As an assessor in this role, you will conduct face‑to‑face interviews with community members applying for Home and Community Based Waiver Services (HCBS), Community First Choice (CFC), and Personal Care Services (PCS). In this role, you will document thorough and clear assessment findings to make justifiable, evidence‑based conclusions in a consumer assessment tool. The assessments conducted in this role determine whether services are necessary, the proper type and level for individuals to receive adequate care, and whether they meet regulatory requirements.

The Working Environment You Can Expect

This position is located in Anchorage, Alaska. Our office is in Northeast Anchorage (1835 Bragaw St, Ste 350). It is near Costco, East High School, various restaurants, and a coffee shop. Parking is readily available at the building.

Our team consists of 18 assessors, 3 supervisors, and 2 support staff who work closely and cooperatively under the direction of the Assessment Unit Manager. The position also involves regular travel throughout the state. There is an option for a hybrid teleworking schedule once a probationary period has been successfully passed.

Distinguishes the roles and responsibilities of governmental and non-governmental organizations in providing programs and services to improve the health of a community.

Special Notice

Transportation to and from assessments is accomplished with state vehicles when available and your vehicle, as needed.

Position requires regular overnight travel within Alaska.

Travel trips typically last around 2 business days, although flexibility is required due to the nature of this position.

Travel methods include commercial and small charter planes, boats, snow machines, and four‑wheelers.

Must be comfortable with travel to both urban and rural regions of Alaska.

A valid and current Alaskan driver's license is required at the time of appointment.

Minimum Qualifications

Competency‑Based Minimum Qualifications Instructions

This job class uses competency‑based minimum qualifications. Please ensure your application (through work history, volunteer experience, training, education, licenses, certifications, etc.) supports how you have gained the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors (competencies) and that you possess the minimum required competencies for the job class.

Partnering :

Public Health :

Applies knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools associated with protecting and improving the health of people and their communities, including promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing, and responding to infectious diseases.

Equivalent to those typically gained by : A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in biological, health, or behavioral science; health practice; education; public, healthcare, or business administration; or a closely related field; AND / OR progressively responsible professional experience performing health program planning, development, coordination, evaluation, or implementation; providing technical health care assistance and consultation; conducting health care utilization or quality assurance examinations; and / or delivering health care.

Special Note :

Agencies employing Health Program Managers are responsible for administering a wide range of medical, behavioral, and social health insurance programs for children and adults. Positions typically focus on a particular health area. Where licensure is required, the job vacancy announcement will identify the type of license necessary to apply for that specific position. The essential functions of some positions may involve exposure to infectious diseases and / or biohazards. Travel may be required.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS

For your application to be evaluated, you must answer the Supplemental Questions. The State of Alaska utilizes four proficiency levels to measure and describe an applicant’s level of competence in applying specific behaviors, knowledge, skills, abilities, and awareness to accomplish a particular task. The four proficiency levels are Mastery, Fluency, Literacy, and Discovery. You must rate your proficiency level for each competency listed in the supplemental questions.

EDUCATION

To verify education is being used to meet and / or support the required minimum qualifications / competencies, you must fill in the Education section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of units completed.
