Dallas Business Journal seeks a driven and enterprising reporter who can chronicle North Texas’ economic evolution. DBJ is looking to hire a trending news reporter who is hungry to break big scoops and dig into important storylines, regardless of industry. That means the ideal applicant will thrive in both fast-paced, breaking news environments and on long-term, source-driven assignments. A typical day might involve writing about a Fortune 500 company’s strategic shift, covering a downtown press conference and tracking down sources to break a hot tip. A successful trending news reporter will be able to navigate different sectors, companies and topics, following the north star of what is shaping the North Texas business scene. They will also be expected to contribute to the newsroom’s culture of in-depth and investigative reporting.
Our reporters must be competitive, nimble and driven to break news about the most important industries, companies and people in the region. They are expected to provide forward-looking business intelligence to savvy readers who will use it to grow their businesses and/or advance their careers. Our content gives them a leg up on their competitors, connects them with decision-makers and delineates growth strategies that work from those that don't. This usually entails working our source networks and digging up news before it's announced or readily available. ACBJ reporters break hard news that sometimes sources don't want brought to light, but they don't burn bridges.
