DU is a medium-sized R1 university situated in the Denver metro area a vibrant urban center in the Rocky Mountain region that is home to more than 3 million people. Our metropolitan location supports collaboration across local universities. DU is comprised of approximately 6000 undergraduates (including 700 psychology majors) 6200 graduate students and over 780 full-time faculty.

As the Universitys largest and most varied academic unit the College of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS) is comprised of artists learners performers scholars scientists and teachers across 21 departments programs schools and centers and acts as a central hub where many of the Universitys disciplines intersect. Nearly all 6000 undergraduates at the University take liberal arts courses with CAHSS and about one-third of these students declare a first major in a CAHSS program. Most CAHSS departments programs and schools offer masters or doctoral programs. CAHSS scholars artists instructors staff and students collaborate in a shared quest for knowledge about the human condition and the development of skills to improve our local and global communities. The broad scope of CAHSS allows students to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed at nearly any career in todays global society.

The Department of Psychology is a research-oriented unit valuing a collaborative and integrative approach to psychological science that fosters intellectual curiosity and innovation and invests in people in a supportive and inclusive environment. Our mission is to advance psychological science by generating and sharing new knowledge through collaborative scholarship educating and mentoring student scholars and contributing to the public good. We are a highly collaborative research-oriented department that values interdisciplinary perspectives and connections across traditional department areas (see for more information).

Our departments vision is to be an inclusive intellectual community that fosters discovery and innovation. Students and faculty in the Psychology Department actively engage in best practices in inclusive teaching research and service. Our department is home to two research institutes - the Stress Early Experience and Development (SEED) Research Institute ( and the Institute for Relationship Science. The departments PhD program is currently ranked 62nd in the United States.

Position Summary

This posting is for a pre-identified candidate.

We seek candidates for a Research Assistant Professor position non-tenure track to begin as early as October 2025. The successful candidate will advance their own research by publishing from ongoing projects existing datasets and through the collaborative development of new projects and grant applications. The Research Assistant Professor will be expected to secure external funding to support their ongoing role. The successful candidate will have a strong program of research and demonstrate potential for external research funding. Candidates should also be committed to working with a variety of populations and advancing the departmental vision to be an inclusive intellectual community.

The successful candidate will be an appointed faculty member in the Universitys Research Professional Faculty series. Assuming adequate funding appointment and annual review their reappointment and promotion shall be made in accord with the Universitys Appointment Tenure and Promotion Policies and Procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Work collaboratively with faculty staff graduate and undergraduate students to successfully implement externally funded research projects.
  • Liaise with community partners and programs for implementation of studies as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain systems for accurate data collection and timely reports.
  • Examine research questions from basic science and / or intervention datasets.
  • Disseminate findings through reports briefs conference and community presentations publications in academic journals.
  • Innovate in developing new projects and grant applications.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • An outstanding record of research achievement and a strong commitment to research in areas of departmental strength.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and submit external funding proposals to a variety of funding sources.
  • Required Qualifications

  • PhD in a social or behavioral science psychology or closely related field.
  • Experience preparing submitting and administering externally funded research projects related to psychology.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent training experience with a range of study designs and statistical analysis approaches and an ability to use them independently.
  • Experience leading teams of faculty and trainees to achieve research goals for complex long-term research projects.
  • Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.
  • Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office / campus.
  • Work Schedule

    While the Universitys administrative offices are open Monday Friday 8 : 00 am 4 : 30 pm faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught service commitments and research agendas. The Universitys academic calendars are posted on the registrars website (the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar).

    Salary Range :

    The salary range for this position is $85000-$105000.

    Position could be filled at .50 to 1.00 FTE. Position is dependent upon available funding.

    The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
