Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Department of Dance at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte invites applications for afull-time Lecturer to start August 2026. The initial appointment is for a three year term, and the position is renewable.The successful candidate will teach contemporary approaches to at least one of the movement practices required by our curriculum. We invite candidates who will help us build upon the range of () with a contemporary practice in African and African diaspora dance forms, ballet, and/or modern/contemporary dance.The successful candidate will also teach creative practice courses (e.g. improvisation, choreography, and/or create new works for student dancers) and large-enrollment General Education courses (e.g. Dance in Global Contexts, Dance in Local Contexts, Engaging with Democracy).As a teaching-focused faculty member, our new colleague must be prepared to contribute to the department’s , curriculum development, faculty governance, and the administrative life of the department, college, and university.Required qualifications:
  • Terminal degree in Dance or related area (MFA or PhD/EdD).
  • Demonstrated skill in teaching contemporary approaches to at least one of the movement practice areas required by our curriculum.
  • Demonstrated skill in teaching that contributes to the department’s mission.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to creative process/choreography courses and/or to choreograph dances for student concerts.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach General Education courses offered by the department.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to an additional area of the Dance curriculum. Priority consideration will be given to candidates who have expertise in Dance Education (K12 licensure, experience teaching in K12 settings, etc.); Dance Science (Intro to Dance Science, Anatomy, Kinesiology, certification in fitness or somatic practice, etc.); or online teaching methodologies (universal design for learning, asynchronous and synchronous, etc.). Needed contributions also include choreographing for musical theater, dance technology and media arts, and entrepreneurship.

As a full-time Lecturer, the successful candidate will:
  • Have 80% of their workload assigned to teaching (4 standard courses each semester);
  • Have 20% of their workload assigned to service;
  • Demonstrate commitment to collaboration and have excellent organizational and communication skills; and
  • Be reviewed annually.

Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
