SCOPE OF POSITION : Operate on-site medical station under written standing orders, distribute and record staff and camper medications, and serve as an on-site advisor for hospital visits.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE :

  • Qualifying certification for camp and conference facility as listed in state organizational rules, as follows (Must be one of the following) :

A physician licensed in Oregon.

  • A registered nurse licensed in Oregon.
  • A practical nurse licensed in Oregon.
  • A National Athletic Trainers Association certified trainer.
  • A person currently certified as completing the American Red Cross Emergency Response Course or equivalent.
  • A person currently certified as completing Wilderness Advance First Aid, or better, from a nationally recognized provider.
  • A current military medical corpsman.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and have work experience in the field.
  • Must have valid or be capable of obtaining Oregon Food Handlers card.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

  • Strong professional clinical demeanor and medical problem-solving skills.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Foster and nurture Christian faith and discipleship in visible, fruitful ways to, and with staff and campers.
  • Provide supervision, support, and motivation to all staff.
  • Lead a weekly devotion with staff assigned to your care.
  • Coordinate with and leadership team for possible medical transportation as needed.
  • Turn in all camper-related forms promptly, such as, but not limited to, incident forms, safety reports, Notice of Concerns, and Observation Logs.
  • Provide a written weekly evaluation of any concerns with summer staff, outlining their strengths and struggles, to the Program Director.
  • Set a good example for campers and others including language, cleanliness, punctuality, sportsmanship, and table manners.
  • Responsible for routine daily cleanliness of public and personal spaces.
  • May be required to serve as Break Day Supervisor for staff.
  • Last-day clean-up you will be responsible for the cleanliness of your living spaces and all medical areas under your assigned care.
  • Enforce respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers, and campers.
  • Enforce adherence to Camp and Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Ensure and provide supervision and physical / emotional safety for campers and staff.
  • May be ask to assist with other duties as requested by Leadership.
  • General Duties :

  • Administer health history and immunization record intake and review provided medical history during the registration of all arriving campers.
  • Inform, in writing, the food service manager of all documented food allergies / intolerances / diseases.
  • Inform, in writing, counselors of medical concerns / issues regarding campers.
  • Administer all medication to campers and staff daily during sessions as indicated by prescriptions.
  • Administer first aid and care for minor illnesses and advise if offsite treatment is needed.
  • Facilitate overnight care for ill or injured campers in the nurse's station.
  • Notify parents of the incidents involving their child at camp by phone, letter, or sending a copy of their "History at Camp" form as soon as possible.
  • Keep accurate records : Medication Administration Record (MAR) forms, daily medical log, camper medical history, and incident reports.
  • Secure Nurses' Station whenever not in use : both building entrance and inner medical room doors.
  • Upkeep Nurse's Station with the assistance of the service crew : sanitize, launder bedding, and dispose of medical waste.
  • Record all medications and incidents in the camper database software and paper copy.
  • Keep an ongoing and accurate inventory of all health and medical supplies, ordering as needed through the preferred vendor (currently Cintas).
  • Stock and issue first-aid kits to assigned personnel.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, hike, and twist continuously for a long period.
  • Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects.
  • Physical ability to respond to a variety of situations. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS :

  • There may be phone and in-person contact with others from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated.
  • Working in a distinctively Christian environment.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Work outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather.
  • Work around dust, odor, high noise levels, and bodily fluids.
  • MISCELLANEOUS :

    The Salvation Army does have a dress code. This will be shared with you at the time of employment.

    The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver's license, have an acceptable driving record. The candidate will be required to pass a motor vehicle record check and the TSA Motor Vehicle training.
