Assistant School Age Teacher Position SummaryUnder the direction of center administration and the lead teacher, the assistant teacher is responsible for coordinating and implementing individual education plans for school-age children in Kindergarten – age 12. The assistant teacher supports the lead teacher in providing a safe and educational learning environment for the children.
Major Responsibilities and Tasks
Program Core Features- Provide a high-quality learning environment and instructional activities.
- Support the lead teacher to provide the highest quality of care to the children.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training in support of ongoing professional development.
- Provide an enhanced curriculum focused on social-emotional development, early language and literacy, and physical development.
Curriculum Development- Positively engage with children and use appropriate Conscious Discipline methods, as outlined in CWCC’s policy.
- Perform the functions of this position with a strong understanding of developmentally appropriate practices.
- Meet with the lead teacher and aide to review lesson plans and assign best teaching practices.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of learning experiences that promote all developmental domains.
Assessment
- Identify concerns or developmental milestones of primary care children to the lead teacher.
- Coordinate with the lead teacher to develop activities and use instructional materials appropriate for preschoolers.
Home-School Connections
- Develop relationships with families by providing open communication and encouraging parent input.
- Interpret school programs for parents to strengthen the understanding of the child’s needs and the importance of an early learning environment for the continued development of the child.
Other
- Attend staff meetings, as requested.
- In cooperation with other staff, complete daily cleaning duties.
- Carry out routine duties such as meal preparations, toileting, hand washing, and supervision of children at all times.
- Ensure classroom materials, furniture, and supplies are properly maintained.
- Provide safe transportation to and from the child’s assigned school during the school year and field trips during the summer.
- Any other duties assigned by center administration
Basic Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
- Must be at least 21 years of age for insurance and transport purposes
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates Degree in Education or related field
- Experience supervising school-age children (grades K-6) in a group setting
- Knowledge of Creative Curriculum
- Knowledge of State licensing requirements
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 25-35 lbs
- Ability to walk, kneel, sit, and stand for long period
