Part Time Special Session Lecturer Pool - Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) / CGMBS

Department Summary

Operating as a member of the Biological Sciences Department, the SJSU CLS Training Program is the largest CLS Training Program in the State of California. The Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist (CGMBS) Training Program is part of the CLS program, as well. More information can be found here:

Brief Description of Duties

• Teach CLS Students Advanced Medical Microbiology, Transfusion, Blood Banking, Hematology, Molecular Biology, Laboratory Management, or Clinical Chemistry and includes 12 separate lectures with associated assignments and exams.
• Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity–including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation–through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
• Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
• All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).

Required Qualifications

• CLS Generalist License or CLS Limited License or MLS Certification or MD.
• Master’s Degree or PhD or three years of teaching experience.
• Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 years of full-time work experience in a clinical laboratory that is directly relevant to the CLS profession.

Compensation

Salary range placement is determined by qualifications and experience. Commensurate with experience within ranks established by the for Special Sessions or at the Director’s discretion.

The rates shown below by range are the anticipated salary from the applicable to be paid per WTU in Special Session programs (a typical course is 3 WTUs). As the salary schedule indicates, compensation may be reduced if enrollment targets are not met.

L-A / Range 2: $2279 per WTU
L-B / Range 3: $2497 per WTU
L-C / Range 4: $3146 per WTU
L-D / Range 5: $3977 per WTU
