POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Aquatic Recreation Coordinator, the swim instructor / lifeguard ensures the safety of pool patrons by monitoring swimming activities, performing lifesaving procedures and enforcing pool rules and regulations. The swim instructor / lifeguard provides basic instruction in swim lesson classes and may also perform regular clerical and cleaning duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Assist with supervision of volunteers and program participants.
• Attend all staff meetings.
• Communicate feedback between participants and program supervisor.
• Prepare necessary documentation.
• Answer public questions regarding programs and facilities.
• Maintain compliance with all applicable City, County and State laws and City Ordinances, policies and procedures at all times.
• Perform minor maintenance and custodial duties.
• Lifeguard and/or teach swimming lessons.
• Communicate with City personnel, outside agencies and members of the community to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Perform pool chemical tests as required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• As a swim instructor, no certifications are required prior to start date.
• As a Lifeguard, all required certifications must be completed and continually maintained in a current status in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Lifeguard training in order to continue to be scheduled on lifeguarding rotations.
• Candidate must be at least 16 years of age.
• Uniform swim suit, safety whistle and swim goggles are required to be worn for this position.
• Candidate preferably has some experience in teaching, babysitting, working with or supervising children.
