POSITION DESCRIPTION Under the direction of the Aquatic Recreation Coordinator, the swim instructor / lifeguard ensures the safety of pool patrons by monitoring swimming activities, performing lifesaving procedures and enforcing pool rules and regulations. The swim instructor / lifeguard provides basic instruction in swim lesson classes and may also perform regular clerical and cleaning duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Assist with supervision of volunteers and program participants.
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Communicate feedback between participants and program supervisor.
- Prepare necessary documentation.
- Answer public questions regarding programs and facilities.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable City, County and State laws and City Ordinances, policies and procedures at all times.
- Perform minor maintenance and custodial duties.
- Lifeguard and/or teach swimming lessons.
- Communicate with City personnel, outside agencies and members of the community to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Perform pool chemical tests as required.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS- As a swim instructor, no certifications are required prior to start date.
- As a Lifeguard, all required certifications must be completed and continually maintained in a current status in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Lifeguard training in order to continue to be scheduled on lifeguarding rotations.
- Candidate must be at least 16 years of age.
- Uniform swim suit, safety whistle and swim goggles are required to be worn for this position.
- Candidate preferably has some experience in teaching, babysitting, working with or supervising children.
