Job Title: Assistant Executive Director

Reports to: CEO/Executive Director

Job Summary: The Assistant Executive Director supports the CEO/Executive Director in the leadership, regulatory compliance, administrative management, and daily operations of the hospice program. This role functions as the second-in-command and is designed as a leadership development position, providing mentorship and hands-on training to prepare for future Executive Director responsibilities. The Assistant Executive Director works closely with the CEO/Executive Director to promote high-quality patient care, ensure regulatory readiness, and support efficient, compassionate hospice operations.

Job Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, nursing, business, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Licensure: Current state license as a registered nurse (RN) and/or in accordance with the Board of Nurse Examiners rules for

Nurse Licensure Compact, preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 1–3 years of hospice leadership experience; hospice experience required. Knowledge of Medicare CoPs, state regulations, accreditation standards, and QAPI processes is required.

Skills: Strong organizational and leadership potential with the ability to support and learn hospice operations; understanding of hospice regulations and quality improvement processes; excellent communication, interpersonal, decision-making, and problem-solving skills; ability to multitask and remain professional under stress; able to establish effective working relationships with staff, the CEO, IDG/IDT, the Medical Director, patients, families, and the public; strong knowledge of Medicare Conditions of Participation, state regulations, and accreditation standards; ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally; ability to read, write, and comprehend English; and a compassionate, patient-centered care philosophy.

Transportation: Reliable transportation. Valid and current auto liability insurance. Current driver’s license.

Environmental and Working Conditions:

Works in a routine office environment. Noise level may be moderately high, the ability to work a flexible schedule and extended hours, including night and weekends. The ability to travel locally and some exposure to inclement weather. Possible exposure to toxic materials, toner, etc. Requires the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm manner.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

· Assist the Executive Director with leadership, planning, and daily oversight of hospice operations.

· Support regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including Medicare Conditions of Participation.

· Assist with ensuring required staff training is completed and documented.

· Participate in surveys, audits, and corrective action planning.

· Assist in investigations of abuse, neglect, injuries of unknown origin, or misappropriation of property.

· Support the maintenance of accurate public information materials.

· Assist with policy and procedure development, review, and implementation.

· Support organizational structure by helping maintain an accurate organizational chart and reporting relationships.

· Assist with ensuring timely completion and submission of required reports.

· Support recruitment, onboarding, orientation, evaluations, and competency assessments for staff.

· Participate in IDG/IDT meetings to support communication and care coordination.

· Assist clinical leadership with ensuring high-quality, multidisciplinary patient care.

· Support staffing oversight to ensure adequate coverage for patient needs.

· Assist with budgeting processes, financial monitoring, and resource utilization as delegated by the CEO/Executive Director.

· Participate in the Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program and help track, analyze, and share performance data.

· Represent the hospice in the community when delegated and support outreach and marketing activities.

· Serve as acting Executive Director when formally delegated.

· Assist with additional duties assigned by the CEO/Executive Director.

$105,000/year-$130,000/year BOE
