The Advanced Level Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) position serves as administrative support and is a foundational role within the Radiology Service. The patient's imaging care is delivered in a team based members of the team include the AMSA, Radiologists, Diagnostic Radiology Technicians, Health Technicians, Registered Nurses, and other Clinical Providers. The team works collaboratively with other members of an expanded health care team including pharmacists, social workers, case managers, etc. to provide a robust interdisciplinary approach to care. Important interfaces and collaborations also occur with larger health care system providers including VA and non-VA specialists, hospitals, other diagnostic and treating facilities, and community based programs.
This is the full performance level for AMSA. At this level, the AMSA performs a full range of duties. The AMSA is responsible for scheduling appointments, including interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to : scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments and / or consults; formatting and sending appointment letters in the mail; entering no-show information; monitoring the electronic wait list; preparing for clinic visits; burning and uploading Imaging CD's / digital images; motoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility; ensuring encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit; verifying and updating demographics and insurance information; processing all emergency and nonemergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals; performing basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage (i.e., TRICARE, Choice and sharing agreements, etc.).

Work Schedule : Sunday - Thursday, 7 : 30 am - 4 : 00 pm OR 8 : 00 am - 5 : 30 pm (If selected you will be required to work either shift based on service's needs)

Pay : Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off : 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave : After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy : After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
