Custodian Position

Perform general housekeeping duties and duties as a custodian. This position may be required to work during delays and snow closures. This position will be required to work overtime on short notice to include evenings, weekends, and special events or be called in at the discretion of the supervisor. This position may be required to work in different buildings / locations to accommodate the needs of the department or work unit.

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent. Preferred

    • EXPERIENCE

  • Experience as a custodian. Required
  • Familiarity with automated cleaning equipment. Preferred

    • ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to diversity and multicultural issues. Required
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions. Required
  • Possession of a valid driver's license. Preferred

    • RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Dispose of trash.
  • Sweep, dust mop, and wet mop areas.
  • Vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas.
  • Clean fountains, ashtrays, and blackboards.
  • Dust and / or wash areas requiring same.
  • Clean restrooms and replenish supplies.
  • Wash windows and door glass.
  • Strip and refinish floors and maintain all types of floor surfaces.
  • Sweep stairs and stairwells and wash same.
  • Remove ice and snow from stairs, entrances, and walks.
  • Wash walls, window ledges, woodwork, furnishings; remove graffiti.
  • Replace light bulbs and tubes; clean light fixtures.
  • Submit supply and repair requisitions to Supervisor.
  • Keep housekeeping equipment clean and perform minor repairs on same.
  • When leaving buildings, responsible for seeing that buildings are properly secured.

    • ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • May direct activities of work study students.
  • Set up areas for special events as requested.
  • Function as an attendant at special College events.

    • PHYSICAL STANDARDS AND SPECIAL JOB FEATURES

  • Exposure to dust and harsh chemicals in performing duties.
  • Lifting 65 lbs. maximum, without assistance, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs.
  • May require climbing and working off of ladders, scaffolding, and powered lifts.
  • May require travel between buildings during shift.

    • $15.98 per hour, plus shift differential
