About the Position Under the close supervision of the Lab Supervisor, this internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the intern's field of study while making a meaningful impact on our organization and local communities by helping to protect and improve water quality. The position supports laboratory, office, and occasional field activities and is structured to align with the academic calendar, offering flexible scheduling during the Spring and Fall semesters, full-time availability during the Summer, and optional full-time hours during Winter Break. Once training is fully completed, the intern is expected to provide Saturday laboratory support (approximately 4-6 hours) during the Spring and Fall semesters as part of essential operations.
For all positions at the District, enhanced safety precautions are in place for essential operations. This internship requires on-site work in the laboratory, office, or field.
Duties- Gain experience performing a variety of chemical analyses using laboratory instruments
- Assist with sample receipt and data entry in the laboratory database
- Coordinate with laboratory chemists regarding sample workflow and prioritization
- Assist with field sample collection, as needed
- Support general laboratory duties, as assigned
Requirements Required:
- Currently enrolled college student pursuing a degree in a scientific discipline
- Completion of at least two semesters of college-level chemistry with laboratory coursework
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Physical Demands & Work Environment Work is performed in laboratory, office, and field environments. The position requires the ability to lift and carry trays weighing up to approximately 25 pounds. Interns must be able to use computer equipment for extended periods and possess sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate laboratory instruments and office equipment. Visual acuity is required to read and write text and numbers. Speaking and hearing abilities sufficient for in-person, public, and telephone communication are required. Noise levels may vary from quiet to loud.
This internship is not eligible for remote work, consistent with District policy.
