Our Program and Who We Are Looking For Minimum Qualifications To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM), or STEM-related degree
  • Four (4) years of full-time equivalent non-teaching industry experience in the field

OR

  • Associate's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM), or STEM-related degree
  • Eight (8) years of full-time equivalent non-teaching industry experience in the field
  • AND

  • Will teach both in-person and online.
  • Success Criteria : These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position. In your cover letter, please provide a brief description of how you meet the minimum qualifications and the following five success criteria so that we can get to know you and what you can bring to Portland Community College. We are seeking a candidate who :

  • Has a passion for and / or recent experience with college-level teaching or adult training and strives for lifelong learning.
  • Experience with AI and Web development including :
  • Proficiency in Python (with Flask or a similar framework) and modern JavaScript (ES6+), with an emphasis on creating asynchronous applications and managing structured data (JSON).

  • Experience working with both relational (e.g., MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL) and non-relational databases (e.g., MongoDB) in a professional context.
  • AI Implementation and Frameworks focusing on the integration of pre-trained models and APIs into functional software applications.
  • Experience analyzing and discussing the ethics, practical limitations, and responsible use of current AI technologies.
  • Experience teaching or providing professional training on how to critically evaluate AI systems and AI-generated outputs.
  • Demonstrated industry connections and ability to stay current with changing technologies and community support needs.
  • Has experience with a broad range of IT topics and the willingness to teach and improve our curriculum across the courses the CIS department offers.
  • Is able to demonstrate the positive impact of strong intercultural, interpersonal, and communications skills (written, oral and presentation) in a highly diverse environment, adapting practices to include a wide range of cultural knowledge, experiences, and perspectives, especially from historically untapped communities.
  • Has the ability to respond to cultural shifts and changing community support needs to help improve our Computer Information Systems program through curriculum development and pedagogical innovation.

    Regarding Academic Credentials at PCC

    These positions are included in the bargaining agreement between Portland Community College and the Portland Community College Faculty Federation Employees.

    Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.

    Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard. (for more information see

    How We Determine Initial Salary Placement

    Initial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($73,911) and Step 3 ($78,408) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement. Placement at a higher step may be possible based upon additional experience and internal equity. The highest step of the range is step 17, ($118,558) Please review the salary schedule here .
