HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
First-Year & Transition Programs in the Office of Student Success seeks two Academic Counselors who will focus on retention by helping students make successful transitions in critical academic program areas through various interventions and initiatives. The role will assist with delivering programs focused on undergraduate students needs primarily those in their first year. The support of these kinds of retention initiatives is an essential part of Georgia State meeting the Strategic Plans goals. These positions are on the front lines of the institutions commitment to helping students from all backgrounds succeed at high rates. The selected individuals will work in conjunction with all resources on behalf of First-Year & Transition Programs to support undergraduate students academic progression.
Essential Job Functions
FLC or PLC
- Work collaboratively with campus partners in University Advisement Center and the Colleges for the creation of Freshman Learning Communities (FLC) or Perimeter Learning Communities (PLC) in all capacities including developing FLC and PLC models reserving courses and building schedules.
- Attend all New Student Orientation sessions to support onboarding of first-year students into FLCs or PLCs through the summer.
- Manage scheduling adjustments through the change order process and other administrative tasks related to FLC & PLC enrollment cycle.
- Provide high level customer service to students and families through phone email and in person communication to ensure a smooth and effective onboarding experience for FLCs and PLCs.
- Complete annual comprehensive analysis of FLC and PLC process including adoption audit student success measures change order metrics and other key indicators of program success.
GSU 1010 / 1050
Recruit and staff open sections of all GSU 1010 and GSU 1050 with graduate assistants First-Year & Transition Programs staff academic advisors staff and university partner volunteers.Recruit hire train and manage on-going support for graduate teaching assistants who staff sections of GSU 1010.Processes required paperwork for department Human Resources and Instructor of Record documentation for instructors.Develop online and in person training and provides on-going support communication and management for all instructors.Provide input and background knowledge to the course content development process in conjunction with staff and faculty committees.Work with campus partners to incorporate university-wide initiatives into the course content including but not limited to Mandatory Advising College to Career etc.Assist with course development and management in iCollege including updating content and assigning instructor roles.Coordinate all GSU 1010 and GSU 1050 course schedules and specific logistics related to course offerings.Review all grade change forms audits removes and extends incomplete grade assignments.Support the coordination of the First-Year book review and selection process.Develop curricular and co-curricular instruction guide and events for first-year integration into all GSU 1010 classes.Answers email inquiries from the relevant First-Year and Transition Programs email accounts sent by students instructors faculty and staff.Support First-Year & Transition Programs initiatives and events including presentations workshops events outreach administrative processing and other duties as assigned.Teach at least one section of GSU 1010.Accelerator
Work collaboratively with campus partners in Math English Learning & Tutoring Center to establish support programming for students.Administer and support retention and success programs activities and initiatives focusing on the support of undergraduate students and the university.Maintain records and provide narrative and / or written progress reports as directed including program assessments / evaluations budget reports and program reports.Use data and predictive analytics to design timely and strategic interventions for student support.Online Populations
Work collaboratively with campus partners to establish support programming for students.Administer and support retention and success programs activities and initiatives focusing on the support of undergraduate students and the university.Maintain records and provide narrative and / or written progress reports as directed including program assessments / evaluations budget reports and program reports.Use data and predictive analytics to design timely and strategic interventions for student support.Partner with academic enrollment and student affairs departments on retention progression and graduation-oriented programming.Minimum Hiring Qualifications :
Bachelors degree and four years of related experience; or combination of education and related experience.
Preferred Hiring Qualifications :
Preference may be given to those who possess a Masters degree and have experience in creating and implementing programs for retention & progression to graduation and success for all students. Experience presenting to small and large groups; effective verbal and written communication.
