Apprentice Machinist
Full Time
The Apprentice Machinist is responsible for material / tooling orders and preparation, CNC machine setup, put-and-take operations, and assisting with machine maintenance. The Apprentice Machinist will work under direct supervision of Newton's Lead Machinist and will have growth opportunities into a programming and machinist position. The Apprentice Machinist may also support production estimate generation and report the status of jobs assigned to the manufacturing queue.
Activities :
- Identifies and submits purchase requests for raw material and tooling needed to perform CNC manufacturing activities.
- Prepares tooling required for machining tasks.
- Prepares / sets up CNC machines and settings for a given operation.
- Under supervision of the Lead, monitors and operates CNC machines, performs "put and take" operations.
- Inspects parts for quality assurance and documents defects for disposition.
- Identifies the need for and performs machine maintenance and minor repairs.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
Skills :
Prior experience operating CNC milling machines preferred; HAAS experience highly desirable, but not required.Prior experience programming CNC milling machines preferred, Mastercam experience highly desirable, but not required.Hands on mechanical experience.Works well in a small team environment.Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.Solid written and verbal communication skills.Proficiency in math.Qualifications :
High School diploma required, technical trade certificate ideal.Demonstrated safety record and willingness to follow safety protocol.To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
