Job Description :
The Senior Software Engineer, Product Engineering is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining cloud-based healthcare solutions that power Client’s next-generation Electronic Health Record (EHR) platform.
Working within a small, high impact team, this engineer will take ownership of building AWS HealthLake driven services and core backend components that enable secure, interoperable, and data intelligent healthcare experiences.
This role combines strong backend engineering, distributed system design, and healthcare data expertise with a focus on performance, reliability, and compliance. The engineer will translate complex product and data requirements into scalable technical architectures, ensuring adherence to FHIR standards , HIPAA privacy regulations , and Client’s overall product vision.
Beyond coding, the position involves participating in architectural decisions, mentoring peers, and collaborating with product managers, applied scientists, and DevOps teams to deliver AI enabled features that enhance clinical workflows and patient outcomes.
Location : Pleasanton, CA (Hybrid – three days on-site) Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Reports To : Engineering Manager, Product Engineering
Key Responsibilities
Strong Java development expertise (primary language) with working knowledge of Python. (Multiple languages is preffered)
Hands on AWS experience, including HealthLake, EC2, RDS, Lambda, or other core cloud services.
Proven ability to design and build scalable distributed systems and RESTful APIs.
Familiarity with healthcare data standards, especially FHIR and HIPAA compliance.
Proficiency with databases (MySQL) and caching technologies (Redis).
Experience writing clean, modular, testable code using unit and integration tests.
Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns.
Experience with system performance optimization and troubleshooting in production environments.
Ability to communicate technical designs clearly and collaborate with cross functional teams (PMs, scientists, DevOps).
Ability to think outside the box and wear multiple hats
Very good attitude and willingness to learn is very important to client
Bachelor’s in Computer Science (or related field) and 5–10 years of professional engineering experience,
ideally in cloud or healthcare tech.
Interview Stages : First a Phone Screen, In person coding round, In person or remote design / architectural round, final behavioral round
MUST HAVE SKILLS
Strong Java development experience (primary language) and working proficiency in Python. Multiple languages is preferred.
Deep understanding of authentication and authorization frameworks, including OAuth 2.0, SAML
Strong understanding of security standards and compliance frameworks relevant to healthcare (e.g., HIPAA, NIST, SOC 2, ISO 27001)
Knowledge of data security best practices, including encryption, secure key management, and safe data sharing.
Proven ability to build and support secure, full stack applications with authentication, authorization, and data protection components.
Experience integrating with or developing identity systems (e.g., Single Sign-On, multi-factor authentication, or role-based access).
Background in scalable software development from medium to large companies.
Strong coding ability, adaptability, and willingness to learn new systems and languages.
Excellent communication skills and comfort working in a collaborative, feedback driven environment.
Able to think "outside the box" with a good attitude
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
Security related certifications (CISSP, Security+, AWS Security Specialty, etc.) are a plus
Willing and able to work on site three days a week (Pleasanton, CA)
