Position Summary
The Vendor Procurement Manager is responsible for overseeing the selection, onboarding, performance, and ongoing compliance of third-party vendors supporting Safeway Logistics operations. This role plays a critical part in mitigating operational, financial, legal, and regulatory risk while ensuring vendor partnerships align with company standards, service expectations, and cost objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Vendor Procurement & Management
- Lead the sourcing, evaluation, and selection of transportation, warehousing, and logistics-related vendors
- Negotiate vendor contracts, pricing structures, service level agreements (SLAs), and renewal terms
- Maintain a centralized, up-to-date vendor database including contracts, certifications, and compliance records
- Monitor vendor performance against KPIs and SLAs, addressing deficiencies and implementing corrective actions
Compliance Oversight
- Ensure all vendors comply with federal, state, and local regulations (DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, insurance requirements, etc.)
- Oversee vendor onboarding processes including background checks, insurance verification, licensing, and safety documentation
- Partner with Legal and Compliance teams to ensure contracts and practices align with regulatory requirements
- Recommend termination or remediation strategies for high-risk vendors
Internal Collaboration & Reporting
- Provide leadership with regular reporting on vendor compliance status, risk exposure, and performance trends
- Support audits, inspections, and regulatory inquiries related to third-party vendors
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in vendor procurement, supply chain management, or logistics operations
- Strong knowledge of transportation and logistics compliance requirements
- Proven experience managing contracts, vendor audits, and risk mitigation strategies
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- 2+ years of experience contracting pricing and bis management experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within 3PL, warehousing, or transportation-heavy environments
- Familiarity with DOT, FMCSA, and safety compliance programs
- Strong Collaboration and cross functional communication
