SUMMARY : Responsible for the delivery of direct educational and mental health services to create supportive learning and social environments for all students. Responsible for conducting formal and informal assessments for the identification, placement, and programming of students for Special Education services and providing effective services to help students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.

Location : Colorado (District / School-Based)

Reports To : Director of Special Education / School Principal / Student Services Coordinator

Salary : Based on district salary schedule and experience

Contract Type : Full-Time, 10 or 11 months (depending on district)

Job Summary :

The School Psychologist is responsible for delivering comprehensive psychological services within the educational setting to support the academic, behavioral, emotional, and social success of all students. The role involves conducting formal and informal assessments to assist in the identification, placement, and development of educational programs for students eligible for special education services. The School Psychologist collaborates with educators, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Assessment & Evaluation

Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations to determine student eligibility for special education under IDEA and Section 504.

Utilize a variety of formal and informal assessment tools and techniques to evaluate intellectual, academic, social-emotional, and behavioral functioning.

Interpret and present assessment findings clearly and effectively to educational teams and families.

Ensure evaluations comply with state and federal regulations and district procedures.

Intervention & Support

Develop and implement evidence-based interventions to address academic, social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.

Participate in Response to Intervention (RTI) / Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) processes and provide consultation on student progress and needs.

Collaborate in the development of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).

Provide direct and indirect counseling services to students, as appropriate.

Consultation & Collaboration

Serve as a member of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 teams.

Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and other professionals to develop effective strategies to support student learning and well-being.

Provide professional development and training to staff on topics such as mental health, trauma-informed practices, behavior management, and learning disabilities.

Crisis Response & Prevention

Support students and staff in crisis situations, including risk assessments and safety planning.

Assist with the development and implementation of school-wide crisis response and prevention programs.

Compliance & Documentation

Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation, including evaluation reports, progress notes, and service logs.

Qualifications : Required :

Valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Special Services License – School Psychologist

Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and MTSS / RTI frameworks

Experience conducting comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations

Strong understanding of child development, learning theories, and evidence-based practices

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams

Preferred :

Previous school-based experience

Familiarity with digital assessment tools and IEP management systems

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements :

Frequent interaction with students, staff, and families in a school environment

May require travel between schools within the district

Must be able to sit for extended periods and perform computer-based work

Occasional lifting of materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs)
