Job Summary
Responsible for the overall operation of the Payroll Department, the successful completion of the bi-weekly exempt and nonexempt payroll, the timely submission of payroll reports and the timely payment of payroll taxes and assigned vendor payments. Directs the implementation and administration of mandated payroll regulations and policies. Completes payroll-related journal entries for the month-end closing cycle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform as the practice expert and go-to person in the department for all payroll related matters. Stay up to date with current payroll regulations and best practices.
Oversees and coordinates the production of the Bi-weekly payroll process and any special compensation requests consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws. Process any manual checks as needed. Review employee time and attendance input for any unusual activity.
Oversees and coordinates the planning and implementation of changes and enhancements for the payroll system as required, due to changes in tax laws, regulations, and company pay policies / compensation initiatives. Remain updated on payroll software, its functions, and capabilities to improve efficiency.
Reviews to ensure processing of new hires, transfers, promotions and terminations are accurate and timely. Partner with HR and benefits in aligning payroll and benefits system.
Organizational Relationships
The Payroll Administrator reports to the Accounting Director. This position works closely with Human Resources. This position interacts with multiple staff within the agency and with outside agencies concerning payroll issues.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma and minimum of five years of payroll experience. An associate degree in business or accounting is preferred but not required. Proficiency with electronic payroll systems and applicable payroll laws and regulations. Experience processing payroll for a mid-sized company with 200-500 employees.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Solid knowledge of basic accounting principles. Proficiency in the use of Word, Outlook, Excel and other Microsoft Office products. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong problem-solving abilities.
