Position Overview
Join us in the summer of 2026 and help us continue the legacy of fostering creativity, nurturing talent, and celebrating the individual artistic journey at Interlochen. We are seeking energetic and passionate Day Camp Instructors who embody our core values and are committed to nurturing young artists. As a Day Camp Instructor, you will lead activities and instruction throughout the day, while fully immersing yourself in the unique environment that only a summer camp can offer. The Instructors will have the group support of Day Camp Assistants for group management and activity preparation. The day camp will offer weekly arts-integrated programming, Monday through Friday, from 9 : 00 am - 4 : 00 pm.
What You Get To Do
- Teach dynamic arts integrated-activities (following weekly themes) and encourage artistic discovery.
- Lead a group of 10-12 campers each week, creating positive group dynamics and building strong relationships with campers.
- Model appropriate behavior at all times as outlined in the Arts Discovery Family Handbook.
- Support other departments' instructors in their time with day campers.
- Apply creative thinking related to student interactions and execution of student activities.
- Take on bus shifts before and after the camp day as assigned.
- Be a team member in keeping our space orderly, clean, and welcoming.
- Attend all staff training and professional development, including weekly staff meetings
- Assist with planning and office tasks such as making copies, hole-punching, printing documents, organizing materials, preparing supplies, etc.
- Other duties as assigned

While we offer accessible housing accommodations, please note that due to the rustic nature of our camp, these options are limited.Commitment to inspiring creativity, confidence, and independence in our campersBachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in one or more of the following areas : visual art, dance, music, theater, or elementary education. Artistic interest in multiple areas is a plus.Must enjoy and have experience working with children in grades 1st - 6th in a classroom or camp settingKnowledge about differentiating a basic lesson plan for multiple age groups, including extending itExperience with outdoor or environmental education is a plusMust have the ability to effectively engage in appropriate communication (verbal and non-verbal) with students, staff, and parentsWilling to perform your duties both inside and outside, rain or shineCommitted to the inclusion and acceptance of othersAble to think on your feet and manage emergent situations should they ariseNote : Arts Discovery Day Camp is located at the Interlochen Community Center (ICC).
