SSTAR is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) which affords our employees eligibility to apply for one of our three Loan Repayment Programs, including the HRSA LRP.

The Community Response Clinician is a dual role and partners with law enforcement and first responders to provide crisis co-response, follow-up, and care coordination for individuals with behavioral health and substance use needs. The clinician also leads the development of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training for first responders, equipping them to recognize, de-escalate, and connect individuals in crisis to appropriate care. This position will also provide clinical services in the Ambulatory Services Department and is responsible for the provision of direct services through individual, group and family counseling to people affected by addiction and / or mental illness.

Duties & Responsibilities

Community Response Clinician :

  • The Community Response Clinician partners with law enforcement to provide on-site crisis assessment, de-escalation, and diversion to services.
  • Conduct behavioral health screenings and guide appropriate dispositions.
  • Advise officers on trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices.
  • Provide post-crisis outreach and short-term case management.
  • The Community Response Clinician links individuals and families to treatment, recovery, housing, and community supports.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement to track outcomes and maintain documentation.
  • The Community Response Clinician develops and delivers MHFA training for law enforcement, fire, EMS, and first responders.
  • Equip responders with skills for early identification, de-escalation, and referral.
  • Strengthen collaboration between behavioral health and public safety systems.
  • Contribute to data collection, reporting, and grant outcomes.
  • Support program development, outreach, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • ABH Clinician :

  • Responds to crisis situations as needed.
  • Monitors and maintains caseload of individual patients.
  • Ensures caseload chart integrity, including timely and accurate documentation, treatment plans, discharges, outreach, and collateral contact.
  • Participates in regular group and individual clinical supervision, trainings and department meetings.
  • Provide 100 hours of direct client service per month in a combination of comprehensive assessments, individual, family and group treatment.
  • Conducts Suicide assessment using the Columbia Suicide Assessment too at initial visit continues to use CSA during treatment as clinically indicated from previous scoring.
  • Responsible for the development of individualized treatment plans, incorporating best and EBP into treatment interventions.
  • Ensures initial treatment plan is developed upon entering treatment and updated within required timeframes. (usually, every 6 months or when treatment changes)
  • Utilizes (EBP) evidence-based practice assessment tools as clinically indicated.
  • Responsible for overseeing panel and ensuring that patients receive appropriate services
  • Responsible for following agency protocols for outreaching patients and discharging as appropriate.
  • Share on-call coverage as requested by Director of Outpatient Services.
  • Experience and Skills

    Education & Experience

  • Master's degree in social work or counseling - related discipline is required.
  • LCSW, LICSW, LAD1, or LMHC preferred.
  • Experience with treatment of enrollees with chemical dependence and / or psychiatric impairment.
  • Computer skills.
  • Strong Oral and Written Skills.
  • Ability to function effectively as a treatment team member.
  • Evidence of good health, grooming and professional conduct.
  • Self-awareness.
  • Bilingual / Spanish a plus.
  • ANNUAL SALARY WAGE RANGE : $68,000 - $76,000
