Position Overview:
Central Care is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Physician Assistant to provide comprehensive medical care within the Department of Primary Care and Community Medicine (DPCCM) at our Military Treatment Facility (MTF). The PA will perform duties comparable to those of a military or government-employed PA, including primary and specialty care, orthopedic management, and emergency patient stabilization.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies (or equivalent).
Certifications: National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA); Basic Life Support (BLS).
Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted PA license.
Experience: Minimum of 12 months orthopedic experience in the last 36 months at an accredited healthcare facility, including exposure to orthopedic trauma, pediatrics, hand, foot and ankle, sports, and/or spine.
Board Certification: Not required.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct initial orthopedic consults and order/interpret radiographic exams; consult with Orthopedic staff as needed.
Brace or splint extremity injuries and place personnel on profile/quarters per policy.
Perform topical and local infiltration anesthesia; manage nonsurgical orthopedic conditions; perform joint injections/aspirations when clinically indicated.
Provide primary and specialty care within the PA’s scope of practice, including routine, acute, and chronic conditions; administer immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients.
Recognize emergency conditions, provide stabilization, and refer complex cases to higher-level medical personnel.
Teach and supervise staff, provide educational lectures, and participate in in-service training.
Promote preventive care, health maintenance, and patient education.
Prescribe medications according to approved treatment protocols and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee guidelines.
Maintain accurate medical records and document patient care according to MTF and Joint Commission standards.
Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare personnel to facilitate patient care.
Participate in staff meetings, case discussions, continuing education, and quality improvement initiatives.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment skills.
Ability to provide emergency care and stabilize patients.
Effective communication skills for patient education and staff collaboration.
Knowledge of pharmacologic agents, dosing, and administration.
