General Job Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive cardiac care to patients in various inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Perform diagnostic procedures such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), echocardiograms, and stress tests.
• Interpret diagnostic tests and develop treatment plans for various cardiovascular conditions.
• Perform cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures (depending on the cardiologist's subspecialty).
• Educate and counsel patients on heart disease prevention, risk factors and healthy lifestyle choices.
• Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals (nurses, surgeons, specialists) to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Maintain accurate and complete medical records for all patients.
• Stay current on the latest advancements in cardiology through continuing education.

• In-depth knowledge of cardiology principles and practices, including diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart disease.

• Exceptional manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

Minimum Education Requirements:

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
• Residency training program in internal medicine accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
• Fellowship training in cardiology (may be preferred depending on the position).

License & Certifications:

• Board certification in cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the AOA.
• Active and unrestricted medical license in Indiana

Experience:

• While specific requirements may vary, most locum cardiologist positions prefer candidates with at least one year of experience providing cardiac care in a clinical setting.
