Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

This contract position offers an opportunity for a skilled professional to support students with visual impairments by providing accessible educational materials in various formats. Located in Renton, WA, this role involves working onsite at multiple district locations and requires a Washington State license and certification, as well as fingerprints on file with OSPI prior to starting. Flexibility in scheduling is available, with options ranging from 0.5 to 1.0 full-time equivalent (up to 37.5 hours per week).

Key Responsibilities :

• Transcribe educational materialsincluding books, workbooks, tests, tactile maps, and graphsinto braille, large print, or electronic formats tailored to student needs.
• Maintain accurate records and electronically organize all transcribed materials for future use.
• Collaborate closely with teachers of students with vision impairments (TSVI) to adapt resources that enhance student learning experiences.
• Manage time effectively to ensure materials are prepared and delivered on schedule.
• Keep up-to-date with the latest computer technologies related to braille production and assistive devices.
• Order and monitor inventory of supplies necessary for transcription tasks.
• Maintain a resource file for locating alternative sources of accessible educational materials.
• Demonstrate excellent command of English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation, ensuring quality and accuracy in all transcriptions.
