Lead Materials Developer (Textiles & Trims)
Our client is seeking an experienced Lead Materials Developer to support seasonal apparel material development within a fast-paced, highly collaborative product environment. This role will step in to lead end-to-end textile and trim development for upcoming seasonal programs, partnering closely with design, technical, and sourcing teams to deliver high-quality, performance-driven material solutions. Candidates with a strong background in performance textiles and experience working with globally recognized apparel brands will be prioritized.
This role is a hybrid model in Beaverton, Oregon.
Lead Materials Developer Responsibilities
- Lead seasonal textile and trim development initiatives, including kickoff, development execution, and final adoption for upcoming product seasons.
- Develop and refine fabrics for outerwear, bodywear, and performance-driven apparel applications, ensuring materials meet aesthetic, functional, and quality standards.
- Manage trim development activities, including zippers, elastics, patches, and other components, in alignment with garment design and performance needs.
- Partner closely with design, technical development, and sourcing teams to ensure materials translate effectively from concept through product testing and production readiness.
- Apply strong technical knowledge to assess how materials perform and appear on finished garments, supporting fit, function, and durability requirements.
- Coordinate material development workflows, timelines, and deliverables using established tools and systems.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with multiple internal teams and external suppliers to drive alignment, resolve issues, and maintain momentum in a dynamic environment.
- Support a collaborative team structure, working within a core materials group while engaging regularly with broader cross-functional partners.
Lead Materials Developer Qualifications
Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in textile and materials development, with a strong focus on apparel fabrics.Proven experience developing performance materials, including applications such as swim, active, or technical apparel.Demonstrated expertise in textile development for outerwear, bodywear, or similar product categories.Working knowledge of trim development, including functional and decorative components.Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant field such as textiles, apparel, materials science, or a related discipline.Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.Experience using product and project management tools such as PCX, Miro, Smartsheets, PPS, or similar systems.Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced environments with evolving priorities and limited structure.Professional, self-aware communicator with a collaborative mindset and strong cross-functional partnership skills.PMP certification or comparable project management credential is a plus.Prior experience working with large, global apparel brands or performance-focused product organizations is strongly preferred.Compensation : Up to $37 / hr.
