Position Summary

Ski Patrollers are responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all the guests on the mountain. This role involves patrolling trails, monitoring slope conditions, responding to accidents or emergencies, and providing first aid and on-slope care as needed. Ski Patrollers assist injured skiers and snowboarders, coordinate with emergency services, and actively promote safe practices throughout the resort.

We are seeking a dependable team member who remains calm under pressure, communicates effectively, and is dedicated to creating a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone on the slopes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Guest Safety and Medical Response
  • Rescue injured guests and administer first aid.
  • Transport patients to the aid room using a toboggan as needed.
  • Accurately document incident history, observations, patient reactions, and follow-up procedures.
  • Contact medical personnel for serious injuries requiring advanced treatment.
  • Immediately notify the Director of Mountain Operations of all serious incidents, including ambulance responses.
  • Demonstrate empathy, maintain confidentiality, and deliver patient-focused care.
Mountain Operations and Safety
  • Inspect and clear all trails before opening to the public and ensure no guests remain on the slopes at closing or during inclement weather.
  • Mark unsafe areas and open or close terrain based on snow conditions, grooming, snowmaking, and scheduled events.
  • Perform general on-mountain safety tasks, including maintaining tower pads, bamboo, rope lines, race closures, and traffic control.
  • Enforce the Skier Responsibility Code and guest policies by addressing unsafe behavior and preventing unauthorized access.
  • Monitor ski lifts (rope tows, T-bar, J-bar, and chairlifts) for hazards, damage, or signs of wear, and promptly report concerns.
Equipment and Facility Support
  • Transport equipment around the mountain using skis or snowmobiles.
  • Assist with snow removal, including shoveling and clearing snow from walkways, stairs, equipment, and other areas as needed.

  • Maintain required training and certifications throughout employment.
  • Model exceptional guest service, teamwork, professionalism, and safety awareness.
  • Support a positive and inclusive workplace culture, assist colleagues across departments, and contribute ideas to improving operations.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education required.
  • Current certification as OEC, WEC, EMT I or higher.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
  • Strong skiing or snowboarding skills are sufficient to safely perform all job duties.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and preventative practices (e.g., HIPAA confidentiality, infection control).
  • Strong critical thinking, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, maintain confidentiality, and deliver patient-centered care.
  • Proficiency in operating snowmobiles, ATVs, and patient toboggans.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional, weather-appropriate appearance at all times.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this position successfully. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities this position requires include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be exposed to some hazards, such as radiation, bodily fluids that may contain disease, and fumes from laboratory chemicals.
