The Morrisville Rural Fire Company was founded in 1955, first serving out of a tin shed the largely rural farms of Western Wake County. The mission : Service before Self. Today, little has changed. The Morrisville Fire Department remains committed to serving over 34,000 residents in the heart of one of the nation's fastest growing technology hubs : Research Triangle Park.

This role is responsible for leading the development and implementation of a comprehensive training program for fire suppression and emergency medical services. With a focus on readiness, compliance, and continuous improvement, the position ensures that personnel are well-prepared through structured training, performance drills, and certification tracking. The role combines administrative oversight with hands-on instruction, fostering a culture of safety, skill, and service excellence.

Some specific examples include :

  • Develops and implements fire suppression and EMS training programs.
  • Tracks, documents, and verifies training hours for ISO compliance.
  • Assigns and manages training through Vector Solutions.
  • Maintains EMT certifications and coordinates in-service training with Wake Tech.
  • Participates in CAM training program development and maintains a strong presence at events.
  • Serve operationally as a fire scene safety officer.
  • Develops and updates Performance Readiness Drills (PRDs).
  • Coordinates external training opportunities with command staff.
  • Schedules department-wide training events and classes.
  • Trains regularly with fire companies to ensure operational readiness.
  • Attends practical training to stay current with evolving techniques.
  • Assists in developing the department's training budget.
  • Maintains accurate records of certifications and training activities.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • The Must Haves (Minimum Qualifications)

  • IFSAC and Proboard Firefighter Certification NC Firefighter I / II
  • NC EMT
  • NC Fire Instructor II (with at least one qualified discipline; multiple preferred)
  • NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 & 800
  • Set Yourself Apart (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Chief Training Officer credential through Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE)
  • Live Burn Certification (or ability to obtain within one year)
  • NC Fire Instructor III
  • OSFM Proctor
