Position Summary
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a key executive responsible for defining and executing an enterprise-wide technology strategy for a rapidly growing maritime and logistics organization. This role oversees all IT functions—including software, hardware, networks, cybersecurity, ERP systems, data platforms, and end-user services—supporting 10+ business entities across 20+ locations.
The CIO must combine strategic vision with hands-on operational leadership, ensuring technology systems, teams, and processes scale effectively with the company’s growth and operational demands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain an IT strategy aligned with corporate goals, operational requirements, and growth plans.
- Lead digital transformation efforts that modernize systems, enhance performance, and support long-term scalability.
- Partner with executive leadership to identify technology-driven opportunities for efficiency, safety, customer value, and competitive advantage.
- Establish governance frameworks, standards, and processes appropriate for a multi-entity operating environment.
- Lead the selection, implementation, and optimization of an enterprise ERP system with seamless integration across business units.
- Oversee the design and continuous improvement of data platforms, including the enterprise data lake, BI tools, data governance policies, and reporting/analytics environments.
- Ensure interoperability across operational, financial, HR, safety, maintenance, and customer-facing systems.
- Promote data accuracy, automation, and transparency throughout the organization.
Infrastructure, Cybersecurity & IT Operations
- Direct the management of networks, servers, cloud environments, communications systems, cybersecurity, and disaster recovery.
- Ensure stable, secure operations across geographically dispersed locations with 24/7 operational requirements.
- Oversee hardware life cycles, software licensing, desktop support, and technology standards.
- Strengthen cybersecurity posture through proactive monitoring, risk management, training, and incident readiness.
Leadership & Organizational Development
- Lead and develop an IT team of 10+ professionals, fostering a high-performance, service-oriented culture.
- Define roles, responsibilities, and structures that support scalability and evolving business needs.
- Build strong partnerships with Operations, Finance, HR, HSE, and leaders across all business entities.
- Manage IT CAPEX and OPEX budgets with disciplined financial stewardship.
- Evaluate technology investments and present clear business cases to leadership.
- Lead vendor management, negotiate contracts, and cultivate strategic technology partnerships.
Operational Engagement
- Serve as the escalation point for mission-critical operational issues, ensuring continuity and uptime.
- Maintain a field-level understanding of maritime and logistics operations to align technology with frontline needs.
- Maintain visibility across locations and build trust with operational teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, including 5+ years in senior or executive roles.
Knowledge & Technical Expertise
- Proven experience implementing ERP systems and managing enterprise-wide integrations.
- Strong background in IT infrastructure, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, and multi-location environment support.
- Experience designing and managing data lakes, BI platforms, dashboards, and analytics systems.
- Track record of leading modernization or digital transformation initiatives, ideally in maritime, logistics, supply chain, or industrial sectors.
- Demonstrated success managing CAPEX/OPEX budgets and leading teams of 10+ employees.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional partnership skills.
- Ability to operate effectively within a complex, multi-entity holding company.
- Strategic thinker who also engages directly in day-to-day problem solving.
- Strong change-management leadership within legacy or rapidly evolving environments.
- Data-driven decision making with a focus on automation and actionable insights.
- Scalability mindset—able to build systems and teams for rapid growth and increasing complexity.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Physical Demands:
This role requires the ability to see, hear, speak, and communicate clearly. Manual dexterity is needed for operating standard office equipment. The position may occasionally involve lifting items up to 10 pounds and may require occasional travel.
Work is typically performed in a clean, well-lit, and climate-controlled office environment with low to moderate noise levels. Occasional visits to field locations may be required.
