Summary
The Director of Facilities oversees the design, planning, construction, and maintenance of all Jewish Council for Youth Services (JCYS) facilities and properties. This role is responsible for developing budgets and long-range facilities plans aligned with the organization's growth and future needs. The Director of Facilities will develop strategies that strengthen JCYS's maintenance operations, lead the creation and delivery of maintenance training programs, and provide hands-on support to maintenance teams across the agency.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of JCYS maintenance teams across 4 Chicagoland locations.
- Establish, oversee, and monitor a comprehensive preventative maintenance program, including its tracking systems.
- Partner with the Director of Risk Management to design and implement field maintenance training materials and content.
- Create and lead a regional maintenance mentor / field trainer group to deliver training to maintenance staff.
- Assess needs related to maintenance products and vendor procurement; lead catalog development and implement systems to track field procurement.
- Review and recommend updates to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Develop and conduct property audits / inspections for all four centers and ensure compliance through consistent inspection procedures.
- Review and approve capital projects and vendor bids to ensure best practices, value, and alignment with organizational standards.
- Assist in scope development for capital projects and approve expenditures for major mechanical systems and non–business-plan capital needs.
- Support managers in bidding, estimating, and implementing smaller capital or life-safety projects; provide on-site supervision as needed.
- Analyze cost-control reports, inventory management practices, and work-order trends; provide data-driven recommendations.
- Review and evaluate interior renovation products, labor, and pricing.
- Coordinate with the Director of Risk Management to implement safety and technical training that meets the needs of maintenance teams, ensuring compliance with EPA, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Provide ongoing support, resources, and guidance to Maintenance Managers across all centers.
- Assist Project Managers in the development of annual budgets.
- Communicate regularly with the COO regarding property conditions, emerging issues, and planned improvements.
- Support Center Directors and Maintenance Supervisors in troubleshooting equipment issues, repairs, and warranty concerns.
- Participate in the recruitment and hiring of key maintenance staff as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent industry experience considered.Minimum of 7 years of experience in maintenance and / or construction operations.Experience managing multiple sites and teams concurrently.Proven competency in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliance repair, carpentry, and general maintenance.Universal or Type I / Type II certification preferred.Proficiency in Microsoft OfficeStrong understanding of policies, procedures, and effective application in operational environments.Demonstrated experience in budgeting, financial analysis, forecasting, and expense control.Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate information clearly.Excellent administrative and organizational abilities; capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Effective time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.Strong leadership abilities, including conflict resolution and team development.Excellent customer service orientation.Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.The expected salary range for this position is $90,000-110,000 annually. The final offer will be based on a candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.
