Typical Work Schedule: 12 hour shifts (rotating weekends) – 6am-6pm OR 6pm-6am
Definition
This position is responsible for working within a community correctional environment and having direct contact while supervising and regulating the movement of reentrants housed in the facility on a twenty-four-hour basis. This individual will maintain building security and offender accountability. This position will monitor, report, record, and redirect the behavior of reentrants to comply with facility policies in collaboration with local law enforcement and contracted jurisdictions (e.g. The Allegheny County Jail, Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, and Federal Bureau of Prisons). This position will receive training and comply with procedures in accordance with all local and federal laws as well as accrediting standards.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to maintaining order within facility by enforcing rules and regulations, performing headcounts, conducting pat searches and utilizing a body scanner, searching and seizing contraband, collecting and testing urine specimens, , alcolyser screening, reentrant processing, reentrant transporting/escorting, utilizing NIK Narcotics Identification System tests, and assisting with K-9 unit(s) to complete searches of the facility.
Eligibility Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience
Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and PA Act 33/Act 34 clearance required.
Minimum of a High School diploma or GED equivalency and two years professional experience required. An Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or a related discipline is preferred. Must be comfortable working in an operational correctional facility.
Skill/Ability Requirements
This individual should operate with a high degree of ethics, maintain motivation, and demonstrate reliability. Ability to function in a team setting; multi-task, communicate effectively (verbally and in writing); establish and maintain rapport with boundaries, operate computers and document electronically, observe and assess behaviors, exercise situational awareness, respond to emergencies, utilize communication devices (e.g. two-way radio). Must be able to work well with people and have the ability to be assertive and remain calm in the event of a crisis and be capable of maintaining control in any given situation. Must be able to work 12 hour shifts with moderate/high activity and movement.
Work Schedule
6am-6pm OR 6pm-6am. Rotating weekend off.
Sample Work Schedule: Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
