Works closely with the Radiologist. Has the ability to manipulate exams to meet the needs of the patient and the doctor. Always practices ALARA. Always makes sure to check positive identification before performing all exams; provides care for patients while obtaining diagnostic quality images for interpretation by a Radiologist based on their protocols. Has advanced knowledge of contrast media, how it affects patients and what action to take in the event of a reaction. Checks and double checks all contrast before it is given to the patient and charts contrast usage appropriately in the patients chart. Ability to work fluidly and as a member of a team. Manage patient flow and obtain pertinent patient medical information / data. Perform QA / QC in accordance with ACR guidelines. Ability to start, maintain and remove IVs and power injector. Maintain equipment and exam rooms in optimal condition and reports malfunctions promptly. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : EDUCATION : High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from accredited radiologic technology program. CERTIFICATION / LICENSES : ARRT certification in CT required and New Mexico State licenses required. BLS certification issued through American Heart Association is required. IV certification preferred. SKILLS : Thorough knowledge of associated radiographic equipment Knowledge of advanced cross sectional anatomy and physiology Knowledge of radiographic positioning Knowledge and understanding of Medical terminology Basic computer skills Must be proficient in starting IV s. EXPERIENCE : Minimum one-year radiographic experience required and 1 year CT experience preferred. NATURE OF SUPERVISION : -Responsible to : Director, Radiology Manager, Radiology Clinical Supervisor, and CT Charge Technologist. ENVIRONMENT : - Bloodborne pathogen C Exposure to various body fluids and ionizing radiation. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Lifts, positions, pushes and or transfers patients and equipment in excess of 50 pounds on a regular basis. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Performs CT scan procedures in accordance with established department / Radiologist protocols and in a timely manner. Screens, prepares and orients patients to procedures to be performed. Provides patient care to patients while in the CT Department. Using Aidet standards. Provides radiation protection to patients, fellow workers and self; following Alara guidelines. Operates equipment in the department in accordance with department, ACR, and manufacturers recommendations. Prepares and maintains written or computerized documentation in accordance with department and hospital policy Maintains supplies and accessories in work area during all shifts. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness in CT Department during all shifts. Is cooperative and helpful in a clear and courteous manner to patients, visitors, physicians, staff and co-workers. Maintains and exhibits a current knowledge of CT Technology, Cross sectional anatomy. Participates in professional continuing educational workshops and programs. Provides CT coverage after normal hours of operation on an on-call basis. CUSTOMER RELATIONS : (Refer to Customer Relations for definition.)
