Position Summary
We are seeking a seasoned Electrical Estimator who can do more than just read drawings—someone who understands the full picture, from material costs to labor productivity and project sequencing. You’ll be estimating projects ranging from mid-size to large-scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Review plans and specifications to prepare detailed electrical takeoffs for systems such as power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, and low-voltage.
- Accurately calculate labor requirements using realistic productivity benchmarks, including union and non-union rates.
- Source competitive pricing from suppliers for equipment, fixtures, and materials.
- Develop clear, comprehensive proposals that position us to win projects.
- Partner with project managers and field teams to ensure alignment between estimates and execution.
- Provide value engineering recommendations to optimize costs without compromising quality.
Technical Expertise
Strong knowledge of electrical systems : switchgear, lighting controls, emergency power, motor controls, and structured cabling.Familiarity with NEC, NFPA standards, and local codes.Proficiency in at least one estimating platform (e.g., ConEst ), plus experience with tools like Bluebeam , advanced Excel , and the ability to interpret AutoCAD / Revit drawings.Union / Prevailing Wage Understanding
Experience with union agreements and prevailing wage requirements is highly desirable. You should understand classifications, productivity differences, and compliance standards for both union and open shop environments.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of electrical estimating experience (commercial or industrial projects preferred).Proven track record with projects exceeding $5M.Journeyman license or equivalent field experience is a plus.Degree in Electrical Engineering or Construction Management is helpful but not required.Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
